Trumpeter 1/350 USS Hornet - Doolittle Raid [COMPLETED BUILD]

Your work is truly exceptional. I have a technical question about how the elevators worked on the Yorktown class of carriers in general. I found this photo of the midship elevator at the hanger level. So when the elevator is up at the flight deck level is there an unusable area of the hanger deck caused by the absence of the elevator platform or is the elevator a 2 stage affair that moves into place at the hanger level as the elevator travels to the flight deck? The second photo shows the thickness of the elevator structure.
