I have an all-Spanish cedar (Saez, the maker) Flamenco guitar. A deep golden color, with a tone to match. Very light weight. with a bright loud crisp attack. The wood makes all the difference.
Alaskan cedar makes wonderful guitar sound tables (tops) as well, producing a deeper, rich, voluminous resonant tone. Exceptional for steel strings.
(I suspect there's more than one guitar player among the bunch.)

Er.. maybe I'm thinking of Sitka Spruce...
B.T.W., quarter sawn beech makes a nice visual substitute at scale on a model where oak would have been used on a real ship. At small scale it gives the look of oak in miniature, whereas actual oak is far too open grained.

Gun deck planking has been completed. I will do the outer planking of the upper hull. Meanwhile, the frames of the spar deck gun ports will also be made.

Only question is of the axles for gun carriages. On the Conny did they not pass thru the wheels and stick out a bit like most carriages?

The gun carriage wheels will be made exactly as you said. The first carriage I built was a prototype and was built to test the height of the gun ports.

I've started planking the upper hull. First, I am making between the gun ports. To guide me in aligning the planks, I temporarily clamped a plank running from bow to stern.

Yes, I slightly sanded the plank edges.
