Sometimes (most times?) building from one of these kits, especially the more ambitious ones, is harder than starting from scratch. At least starting from scratch, you know what you need (everything), or it is revealed as you progress, rather than being deluded into thinking the kit supplies everything you'll need when often they don't. The longer the kit has been in production and the more revisions it undergoes, the worse it gets. When I buy a kit, it is usually with the understanding that I will radically revise it myself into the thing I want, using the basic components as a place to start, and a leg up.
My Mamoli "Flying Cloud" is a case in point. It has long since ceased to be Mamoli and has evolved basically into a scratch build for better or worse. I can't count the number of revisions and do-overs I've recorded on my log. It's all there. Lately I've taken a step back for a breather. But I'll get back in once I can love it again. (About a weeks' worth of something else.) The kind support of an apparently dedicated following has been very helpful, encouraging and keeps me going.
I am so sorry you feel so discouraged by this model. I thought it was coming along pretty well. There will always be someone whose version will be humbling.
Sometimes it comes down to dogged determination. Any way thanks for sharing your effort. I have enjoyed following.
