Vasa - 1:65 DeAgostini [COMPLETED BUILD]

Robands are done (and I'm done with robands).

In retrospect I think it would be better to have more robands on each of these yards. If it drives me crazy looking at this every day I will go back and add more. But right now I need to take a break. Doesn't look like much on the picture but what you see here took hours and hours.

I'm going to add gaskets first and see what that does to the overall look (gaskets are the ropes used to furl the sails and they are 'permanently' installed on the yards).

Thanks for stopping by!
Never knew they were called robands. Learning something new every time I visit.
Did some of those on my Bluenose; even with just a few robands to be installed, they were a royal pain in the...

Hi Paul,
Yes... Looks like they were seized to the bolt rope, or to the small cringles on the bolt rope... difficult to say 100% , but most likely not just passes "free" over the bolt rope
A few pictures of Vasa model, Duyfken, Half Moon and Kalmar Nykel replicas
ps
However on Duyfken replica and Vasa model more likely they seems free passes trough small cringles, not seized to them...but I prefer to show them seized as clearly seen on the Half Moon or Kalmar Nykel replicas...

Hello Friends,

I'm taking a bit of time away from actively working on my Vasa, but today was quite nice outside, so I risked a road trip. I hope you enjoy these outdoor photos...

It's good to stop every once in a while and remember what has been accomplished. I am truly grateful for the many, many people who have helped me, corrected me, and encouraged me along the way. I have been blessed by your shared expertise and friendship, and I'm excited to see what the future holds!

Dear Paul. This is an absolutely glorious accomplishment. The pictures are magnificent, and the natural light adds another dimension to the colour of the hull and the exquisite painting of those thousands of little pieces that make for the singularly most impressive ornamentation that I have ever seen. I take my hat off to you sir!

Hi Paul,

I am still amazed by the fact this is your first build. I guess I speak for all of us that we are excited to see what the future holds.
Hope you enjoy the hobby so we can enjoy your work.
Thank you, Maarten! Of course the hull wouldn't have turned out at all if it wasn't for your help (along with several others who saved me when I was floundering). Plus, you didn't make fun of me for 'fangirling' all over you when we met in Amsterdam . I remain in your debt...

I'm blushing. Thank you for your very kind comments, Heinrich.

The outdoor photos are a great change!! At a certain point I would be nervous to take my ship out of the house except for moving or a show. I would hate to have the post about you needing to redo a whole mast because it snapped from on the road damage
For sure Rob. I was very careful but if I snap a mast I might be forced into uttering a profanity...o_O.

I can just echo what Maarten said! It is a very accurate and precise build, but considering this is your ever first model...what else could I say, mon ami? Just WOW!
Too kind Jim! As the builder I see all the things I wish I had done better. But I'm just doing this for fun so at some point the redo's need to be set aside in favor of progress. That said, I'm really pleased thus far.

Those robands look superb Paul. You really have a knack for this type of thing, although I can imagine the sweat, blood and tears it took to get them to this stage. They will look even more superb when hoisted on your Vasa, looking forward in anticipation Thumbsup

Did anyone say it will be easy and you will not have to re-do it (if needed)? I want to know that person's name  The possibilities are limited only to your abilities and willingness, to say the last. ;) I am confident that you have already advanced to the next level, you just don't want to accept it..:D different levels - different requirements. :)

Indeed, I have been slowly adding tools to my workshop in anticipation of making an even better 'next' model. I'm out of my wheelhouse, of course, because when all the real men were taking shop classes in school I was dissecting frogs and learning organic chemistry ROTF.

1656807982282.pngPhwoar! That took my breath away. That's the first time I saw the big picture of your entire model so far Paul and it is truly mind-blowing. And this your first model? Truly a phenomenal piece of craftwork that you can already be very proud of. Just whatever you do on your 'road trip' ... don't drop it!

I could spend hours looking at that, so much to admire Thumbsup

By the way, who are these little guys?

Hi Paul,
is that the front yard of your property ? Model is terrific.
Thanks for visiting Bryian. These photos were taken in my backyard. Mostly white oaks and burr oaks (and two red oaks - they are odd birds because they lose their leaves in the spring rather than in the fall). We are very lucky to have been able to build on this piece of land.
