@Heinrich, I think I have a wee bit of a problem with the next step.

Do I remove the bottom of the doors to get a better fit under the canopy??

Jan
Good morning Jan. Eish….this could be a problem. Great doors BTW however by removing the lower part your hinges and door handle etc will be out of sync. Murphy has struck;). Cheers Grant

Yup, I’ve thought about that  and I’m not coming up with any good solutions. The plan is to spot and mark the door locations, add the over lapping planking and then fiddle the with doors.

Not much progress to post. Outside temperatures are in Fall mode and I have the opportunity to do some needed cleanup of our neighborhood snowmobile trails.

Me, getting ready to drag some cut brush to the wood chipper. This a jpg conversion from a short iPhone video. Haven't figured out how to convert the Apple format high resolution video to mp4, etc.

Good morning Jan. It looks like you guys have plenty of clearing to do. That “jungle “ grows pretty rapidly during spring/ summer. Maine certainly (according to google) looks like a beautiful state. I don’t know how you guys do those crazy cold winters but a snowmobile sounds fun so better get those trails ready :D . Cheers Grant

Hi Grant, the Jungle on that part of our property is a vine/ bush that grows like crazy. Given the amount of rainfall we had this summer there was a lot of growth. I you would believe it we had a three to four year drought so the unusual amount of rain this summer helped immensely. Winter is one of my favorite times, the more snow the better. I’ve given up skiing, the Admiral worries about an old “F..t “ with old bones mixing it up with youngsters on the ski slopes. But she does enjoy snowmobiling. Within the neighborhood we maintain and groom several trails. Those trails connect to trails maintained by several of the local snowmobile clubs. We‘ve learned to dress warm and to enjoy our winters.

OK, OK. I’m still thinking about a fix on the pesky door installation. I’ve figured out that there is a wee bit of difference in the height of the canopy. (See the blue arrows)

The Port side is higher than the Starboard.

I think if I adjust the bottom of each door ever so slightly I can disguise the “error”. If that ploy doesn’t work it will be time to invoke plan D and use @Heinrich’s method and cut off the bottoms of the door frame. Hopefully plan C will be OK if I can apply the “ four foot” rule.

HOBOY!!THOSE PESKY DOORS!!!!!

I think I'm getting close. The Jan work around seems to be "OK", it passes my "four foot rule".

Hi Jan, just remember that there has to be space for a beam to fit across the two doors. See below. Otherwise, the two door arches are going to sit out in the open.

Good evening Jan. Yep the 4 foot rule works for sure…. In fact a photo zoom also goes a pretty good job:D. Cheers Grant
Hi Grant, I'm still diddling around with this part of the build. I managed to add door #2 and then dry fitted the clapboard planks between the doors. I tacked the planks on with Elmers Glue Stick. I'm trying to figure out how to space them properly. Yup, I just bumble along, fiddle with this and fiddle that until I'm satisfied.

Your spacing looks absolutely fine, Jan. You should be good to go! Thumbsup

Hi Heinrich.
It’s a delicate process. Big fingers, little parts and at times frustrating. The open hatchway under the canopy is a magnet for small pieces of planking if they slip out of my tweezers. A few of those pieces have disappeared down that hole never to be seen again.

No outside trail trimming work today or tomorrow. Tropical storm Phillipe is on the way. The forecast is for high winds and up to 3 1/2 inches of rain. If you compare my previous photo (the start of my trimming project) with the photo below you can see there has been substantial progress.
