YQ Bluenose Ted R

All of my life I seem to have had a talent to see a problem and to be able to implement the proper corrective solution with a minimum of disruption and confusion. It appears this ability departed.
I don't know why the solution to a problem, nowadays, sometimes doesn't come to mind until much later.
Earlier I was having trouble controlling the dimensions on the mast hoops. The inside dimension was no problem as it was wrapped around a drill bit. I was getting a ragged exterior of a varying width. I tried sanding but wasn't able to keep control of the roundness and width.
Only today did it occur to me to put them back on the drill bit and sand them together.
Such simplicity.
I want to thank all of the members of this site for your forbearanceIMG20241104065052.jpgIMG20241104073413.jpg and gracious help in guiding me through this build.
Sincerely,
Ted

I'm working on the main mast.
I t appears part 115 wrapped with the brass sheet or something. I didn't notice this on the foremast. Should I leave it off
Best regards

Did anyone know what type of would is used for the masts and spars?
Of course I can't find the part 115 included in the kit. I made a replacement and started sanding the lower and upper main masts.
I used a Oudtinix 50 bit diamond burr set I got in Amazon. This is the first diamond coated drill or burr set that wasn't a complete disappointment. On most the diamonds shed faster the wood you're working on. So far I can detect no wear.

Oudtinx 50-Piece 1/8-Inch Shank... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07ZQ5BFZP?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Best regards
Ted

The mast hoops I made are too large for the upper masts.
I will have to remake them for both masts. The upper hoops fit the lower masts.

That's right. Again, if memory serves me correctly, I used a 10mm drillbit for the lower mast hoops and an 8mm for the upper masts.

I'll check these sizes.
I'm having trouble with my plane. Every piece of wood I use just turns to chips.
I've tried making the bit thinner and thicker.
Tried sharpening the blade with 4000 emery sandpaper
