and do not forget to check this posts about the armament

Hello
I am 8 months on with my Mary Rose and decided at the beginning to modify the superstructure to more suit the carrack type of vessel it should be. I attach a view of the forecastle showing it’s new form.

Are you staying exactly with the kit representation ? If not what are your intentions ?

Hi and thanks for the interest, my plan is that I wanted it to represent the shape (as far as reasonable) shown in the ANTONY ROLL. I love what you have done to the forecastle and I would very much appreciate it if you had more pictures.thanks again

Tks your comment
Like you I intended to make a close Anthony Role depiction. But I acquired McElvogue’s book and finally decided to follow his portrayal, opting for 3 decks at forecastle and 2 decks summercastle, much like the Hunt painting. Unfortunately it was too late to include the higher prow ( one of the many problems with this kit) so my boat should more resemble Hunt but with the forecastle dropped by a deck.
More pics attached
Rather than painting I also decided to use veneers for the decoration, although I did not realise that sanding and varnishing would degrade the finish - a problem I must solve before I make the sides and summercastle as they will be more noticeable.
I will watch your build with interest to see how you deal with the Anthony Roll front end. Best of luckAA6AB258-730F-494A-940A-F6F4491DFD5E.jpegC796D369-45A2-44F1-A2C9-EE00D9CB38D1.jpeg

I acquired McElvogue’s book last week and the representative picture I found mos interesting is below, the problem is that the Anthony roll is just over the top with” artistic licence” EA0DDBA0-F24E-4C30-965A-43DBB3324835.png

I agree. The Anthony Roll is quite clearly misleading when comparing the main guns with the wreck. But does the same apply to the decks ?
Considering that warfare at that time was based on the carrack then Caldercraft are most probably wrong. The depiction you attach is the maximal interpretation of the Anthony Roll version with 4 and 3 decks respectively fore and aft. This, in my opinion, appears notably unstable. Hence my decision to opt for a 3 and 2 version
Are you going for the full monty ?

A painting by Bruegel the elder of a “carrack” is also interesting. At the end of the day I ask myself what is it I’m building, to be honest right now I’m just not sure which way I’m jumping. I’m not an historian, I just want to build an honest thing, Caldecraft have the official stamp f approval but I don’t think I will make it without some adjustment.

Very good deck planking, Ikecurran. I like the idea of spitting deck in two half. This gives plenty of room to work with the deck. If you don't mind, what brought my attention, is part 18. It is a filling piece between the two adjacent bulkheads, This part extends both bulkheads, if you leave it 'as is', you will have a problem with the garboard plank. The green line explains what do I mean. Perhaps, it might be just a photo taken from a sharp angle...

Thanks very much for the observation, I truly appreciate the overwatch, my plan is that now things are firmer i can look to finishing the shaping, it certainly looks like I’ve put that filler too low though. Thanks
