Make your rope on a rope walk

Echoing Daniels words of praise. A great tutorial and well presented.
My problem with the thread: There are various sizes from Gütermann, and these sizes are not in mm. Is there a way to convert the thread sizes given on spools of thread to mm?
Trevor
There must be. But I don"t understand it. On Google you can search, I did but for me I only use serafill of Amann lockyarn. This is 120/2. The 2 stands for 2 threads the 120 for ......? But the thickness is 0,12 mm in diameter.

In example a T-135 has a metric size of 20. So a Tara20 1x3 would have a 1mm diameter
Without the upper chart I would have no idea what it would take to make specific rope diameters without trial and error.

The charts of Domino's don"t tell everything like the chart I made. The thickness you got after you made rope depending on your method of turning. When you use more weight, more rotations etc.. every makes a different outcome. For example 3x1 serafill is in my case not 0,3 but more 0,2 mm.

Hi Stephan,

Googled around the internet, but to no avail. I wrote sometime ago to Gütermann but received no reply to my request for a conversion chart.

I really try to avoid getting too technical with rope size. I concentrate on making sure the ropes are relative to each other (main stays much thicker than running etc.) and that they will pass through the blocks I am using. Sometimes you can't get the color you want in a certain brand so you can cross ref it to a brand using a different description.

Good afternoon Luigi, which table are you looking for
yes He is asking 2 different things. There are charts like the chart of Dominoff, Dubs modeling and I mentioning before. And the question to Guterman is about the thickness of yarn. What you can find on the Wiki page https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Units_of_textile_measurement And that is difficult to understand. The best is look to the charts of Dubs when you use Guterman. There he is telling the end result about the rope by different yarns

this chart I mentioning in the first post

Edit: Forget the contra weight in the diagram. This is wrong and need to be more. Example 3x2 must be at least 80 grams.

Ciao Frank,

Saluti,
Trevor.

Frank,
I was looking for a method of converting the Gütermann thread size into mm. For example, what is Gütermann skala 240 in mm diameter. I seem to have found what I was looking for with the help of members here.

In this picture you see a mistake in the rope. In the middle the rope is not so nice twisted. This is because I stumbled about the dog. :p:cool: Yes maybe it was because of that. But the reason that this happens is that you go to fast with the separator on the walk when twisting the rope. That is what I mean with to build up experience. It will not give you the best result in one time. You need to practise. I spilled a roll of serafill (5 km yarn) getting the best result. So don't be ashamed when it does not work the first time.
Thank you very much for the useful and important information, I would love to apply it in the future.
Until then, I would be happy to buy if you have any left or want to sell:)

For anyone looking for threads, I have one of the best websites I've yet to come across https://www.toko-kurzwaren.de/. They tend to take an age to get some of their goods sent, Gutermann E121 took almost 2 months. They have all the Mara and Tera sizes and colors, They also have the full range of Aman Serafill which I've really liked experimenting with. No Skala thread but hey you can get everything.

For example, what is Gütermann skala 240 in mm diameter
okay, and where do you see how thick it is? I don't see that in the charts Only when you twist 3 threads to a rope 3x1 it is getting 0,48 mm. (Domanoff)
and 3x2 0.38 mm. (Dubs)

Thanks Shota, but I don't sell. Especially I don't sell rope. It is a lot of work or time to make. The price would be to high making it on order like Ohla already told in her video. But I can always help when you want to start building a rope-walk and make your own rope. What is a nice episode to do in our hobby.
