I’m taping some wax paper on the strongback frames to keep glue from attaching to the frames. I wish I had thought of this before I started the planking. It would have been so much easier. View attachment 296309

You should be fine… the ones that stuck on the frame for me were near the bottom (of the boat),

Starting with the third strake, we begin using pre-tapered strakes. At first, I was confused when the instructions show the tapered ends at the stern. That’s opposite to what I’ve seen on my ships. Apparently the strakes are supposed to swoop upward at the stern. Also, the directions say to lay the straight side down against the preceding plank with the tapered side up. (But it’s really down if the boat is right side up. I’m so confused!)

So I used an Exacto knife to bevel the end so it will fit the stern. Then I dipped the plank in water for about 15-20 seconds. I could then bend it carefully by hand. So far, so good.

I glued it to the stern and clamped about 1/3 of the plank together and ran a thin line of thin ca along the seam between the planks. After it dries, I can shape, cut, and glue the bow using gel ca. I will then finish clamping and gluing the rest of the seam.

Hmm. 100# of clamping force. That should do it .

I think it's another one of those pesky optical illusions when you take a 2D picture of a 3D object. It actually slopes down a little to the left.

For the most part, beveling the planks works pretty well. I had decided I didn’t need to bevel the entire length of the plank, but I think I stopped too short.

Hi Vfrd, you could try waxing it instead of applying tape
