Good morning Vic. This looks like it is working for you. Is it possible to shape the plank more prior to fitting? Bend it up with a fixed pattern off the boat and heat it then leave it until the shape stays? It may be difficult as it looks like it has to bend up, round for bow and also looks like it has a small twist as well. Cheers GrantWas having a serious problem with making the planks meet on the top (actual bottom) of the boat. There was a huge gap. I tried shims without success. The hull is too rounded to use clamps. So I used one clamp to hold the plank down vertically and pinned a scab piece of wood to the side to give a clamp something to hold on to to provide horizontal pressure. That closed the gap. If somebody has a better way, I’m open to suggestions.

Look at the grain direction. Diagonal. Choose straight-grained wood pieces for bends and twisting. And consider steaming. It actually has a 90 degree twist plus a sharp 45 degree turn in 6 inches or one hand span. This is what happened on one plank I tried to bend that way after soaking in hot water. View attachment 329674
Nope.Do you have an electric plank bender Vic?
I guess I’ll have to make me a steam box. This little boat is turning out to be one of my biggest challenges.Look at the grain direction. Diagonal. Choose straight-grained wood pieces for bends and twisting. And consider steaming.
Makes all the difference in the world.Nope.
you can soak the plank in the hot water for 5 min, bend\form around the shape or bulkhead and let it dry...that should do it.I guess I’ll have to make me a steam box. This little boat is turning out to be one of my biggest challenges.
Remember to use distilled water.I’ve been wanting to try this out. Maybe this weekend.View attachment 329791
Makes sense. I did notice the grain going diagonally on that one strake. I’ll have to see if I can find about 8 more straight ones. The Earlex is a great generator. I use it with a couple different steam boxes as I also make fly fishing hand nets that require bending. Choosing good, straight grained, bendable woods really helps.

Good morning Vic. Looks pretty functional. Are you still playing football or are those boots hung up for good?I built a steam box from some leftover plywood. It was really warped and I wish I had a bigger steam box for it. I’ll test it out tomorrow. View attachment 330293View attachment 330294
At 74, I think they're hung up for good. The last time I wore them in a game was 12 years ago.Good morning Vic. Looks pretty functional. Are you still playing football or are those boots hung up for good?. Cheers Grant
