Wow. That's too much. If my memory serves me correctly I think it was on special when I purchased it from Model Expo

I have just picked up mine using the available sales even when on back order and picked it up for under $400.00 dollars. Model Shipways graciously honored the sale! They are a great company to deal with!

I pulled out my kit and checked the matched center keel boards and width of slots were same on both halves, but slot widths did vary from one slot to another which is not good quality control unless some bulkheads are on different thickness from other bulkhead sheets.
