ZHL Le Soleil Royal

I finished planking on the starboard side and then started planking the aft side. Finished that and just needs a bit of trimming.

Most of the aft side will be covered with blue paint, windows, doors and bling.

I decided to test fit the balcony floors before I started planking them.

Finished planking the front of the ship. A little trimming is needed. Does anyone else wonder why the two cannons on the bottom are there?

Also finished planking the rudder.

Now to figure out how to do the balconies on the sides of the ship. It looks confusing to me.
Good morning Jay. Good to have you back. That is looking so good. I love the way you achieved definition in the planking- looking really impressive. I’m with Vic here, those fore cannons may just blow out the sprit sails. ;) Cheers Grant

Thanks Grant. Hope all is well with you. Thanks to you and Vic this old dog learned something new.

Your build looks amazing!

I tried to get the side balcony supports to line up with the rear balcony floors but got frustrated with it so I picked up the dremel and cut off the rear supports and side balcony supports. I don’t know if that was a good idea but it made me feel better and I think I can line everything up without them.

I painted the rear of the ship ultra marine blue but it was too dark for my liking so I redid it with a lighter color and I like it better.

I also started planking the framework for the grates that go on the bow.

I know your frustration on those galleries. I like the second option on the blue. I wound up mixing two different blue paints to come up with the color I wanted. Your bow piece is looking good and you’re making good progress!

Thanks Vic, it’s good to be back working on this after almost a year absence. By the way welcome to the Three Quarter of a Century club.

Thanks Gilbert, I like the color you chose for your ship but I didn’t really know what color I chose not seeing it in person but just ordering it online. I’m happy with it though.

Did you get the side galleries on too, Jay? Remember that the side ones have to be parallel and not further apart than the length of the metal supports. I had problems with that and so did a couple of others.

Yes, Jay. Those are the ones. If they don’t fit, you have to add to them. It’s not bad if you can keep the galleries parallel. Did you finish casting all the metal parts in resin?
Vic, as of yet I haven’t done all the metal parts in resin. If the X15 parts are too short I will add a base to them and cast them in resin so that shouldn’t be a problem. Thanks for the tip though. It’s nice to know what to look out for before it becomes a problem.
