Grants Xebec 1:60 (using Jabeque Cazador Occre1:60 kit) [COMPLETED BUILD]

Good evening.
The ships boat: I am doing 2 layers of planking. The outer layer will be in a similar colour and pattern to the ship itself. (Grants design). I will have to cut the left over veneer into 3mm planks - hopefully I don’t break any as I just have enough.

Inner planking: before planking I stained the ribs with oak stain in the same “used” not weathered style as my cannons and oars. I did this prior to planking as the inside of the boat will lime wood of the first planking layer and it will not be possible to stain the ribs without messing the lime- well for me anyway.

Progress so far :D90E5109-591A-4B3E-AC70-00D164ED36E0.jpegF92D997B-0D4F-496B-982D-D0BD72EB85FD.jpegEBA5A036-7672-4C0F-BB5E-CF6B3B9B708B.jpeg
Cheers Grant
PS cannons are continuing albeit at a very slow pace….Sleep.

Great looking boats!
Good morning.Thanks Johan.

Good morning:
This morning I did a little trimming and sanding. I’m going to cut the veneer left overs to see if I can get enough planks to do the boat. If not I am going to have to finish this more and rethink my colour scheme for the boat.

Still need to work out how to construct the rudder part of this boat. Thinking of a little triangle wood with a hole in it. Should fit in there nicely. The stem fits nicely :D

Thanks Peter. As with so much of my modeling it always looks like a mess when I start. I’m pretty chuffed with how the first planking layer is coming out and holding my breath for what she will look like insideRedface
It's surprising how much work those little boats are. Great job btw.
Hello Jack. That they do. It is fun building them though.
Wow! Whether that is the first or second planking it sure did turn out great!
Thanks Paul. If I can’t make enough veneer planks I will have to do plenty refining to this layer. I’m hoping my “stain the ribbs first “ approach works for the inside. We will find out….;).
Cheers Grant

3 more to goExplosion.

PS : note for Paul (@dockattner ) The rings on the fore hatch are not glued yet so are all over the place.… for you I will align and glue the rings to the hatch.
PS 2 : I am disappointed with the shinny brass however living in Melkbosstrand on the sea these discolour quickly. If you look at the hatch rings vs the cannon already less shine. Then take a look at my Victory-

Good morning - ships boat
Out of the rig. The inner planking came out really good as did the ribs. Unfortunately there are not enough ribs and way too large. Going to have to cut them out and make my own ribs.

Second layer:
I have enough veneer if I use a butt pattern and use the short leftovers. There are no redos here.

I am changing the shape of the stepped stern a little and the colour scheme to make a mini me of the ship.
Before I go any further I need to prepare the rudder section:

Outstanding job Grant, those little boats seem harder to do than the mother ship and you killed it.

I like the way you can overlay the pictures with words and arrows etc. Do you have to have a special program to do that? I wonder if you can do that on an iPad?
