Grants Xebec 1:60 (using Jabeque Cazador Occre1:60 kit) [COMPLETED BUILD]

WOW. Love your ordnance very much! I'm impressed with the gun rigging (not an easy task) ;) But...if I may....only, if you don't mind... at least I can see it on the macro view: the eye ring a bit oversized? If you compare it to the size of the block (attached to it) the eyering is bigger. Also, the diameter of the wire, you made for eyerings might be a bit smaller to create harmony for the entire gun setup.
Good morning Jim. Thank you. You may and I certainly don’t mind;). I am in agreement with you. I used the ring and eye bolts provided with the kit and after the first few I thought I could get away with it.( I have noticed that almost every accessory that has come with this kit is oversized. ) I have gone too far to change these now so hopefully as the deck gets busier they get lost in translation….…. I am going to make a very busy deck. Your input is valued . Thank you. Cheers Grant

Grant, I see a striking beauty in the repetition of your canons on that magnificent deck. I love it!
Good morning Daniel. Thank you kindly. Using @Pathfinder65 “4 foot rule” it looks awesome. Close up there are things I would change- never use brass on a ship, get smaller eye bolts and rings and have plenty wood supply when starting so the finish and grain is better. Been a super fun build tho. Cheers Grant

Morning Grant,
This one is coming together rather nicely and so is the canon installation.
Our German neighbors have a statement: "Ordnung muss sein"; well, you practice that one, I'll give you that.

With respect to oversized parts, I've encountered essentially the same: oversized parts coming with the kit, plus there's only so much your fingers and tools can handle, unless you're a watchmaker.
Essentially it comes down to a trade off between "authenticity" and "producibility", frequently ending up with compromising the first.

Impressive views Grant. Love it!!!! Thumbsup
Fortunately, you're halfway there, Grant. And in terms of dimensions, it is always a trade-off between material from the box, which is representative of the appearance or handling. The overall picture counts. And that looks neat.
Regard, Peter
Good evening Peter x2 and Johan. Thank you. Your comments do encourage me to keep going. However I’m done with cannons so going to play with Anchors for a while. Cheers Grant

Good morning.
Had fun today designing my anchor functionality. NO MORE CANNONS FOR A WHILE.

The way the Cazador kit has the Anchors is impractical. The main anchor cable runs out from the main grating, along the deck, over the bulkwark and secured to the anchor near the cathead. If this anchor is lowered it would flay around and destroy much of the fore of the ship as there is simply nothing to secure the anchor cable. The ship would also fail to maintain a” into the wind “ position due the anchor cable at the side of the ship- unless both where deployed and the cathead wont hold in a storm. (My uneducated guess).

The Le Requin has two “knightheads” near the bow of the ship to secure the anchor cable as shown:

Grant crazy….I will take the beating from the purist out there ROTF

Grants Xebec: The first Xebec with hawes holes ?o_O. I could not find a way to make these knightheads, and the cathead design of the Cazador would not work with these anyway. So I decided to make a more traditional hawes hole approach.

Anchor buoy. -cone buoy.Again I deviated from the squat shape to a slimmer one- need to keep the “sexy”. ;)I used clove hitches to thread the horizontal “netting”. To tie off just overhead knots.

I think making so many cannons has made me a bit nuts…. ;).
Cheers Grant

Not the expert here, but to me this looks like a possible and plausible solution. Bonus: very nicely executed.
Beautifully executed!
Very nice Grant, I liked the anchor discussion in the narrative you included.
Your work is just so impressive my friend! I love the way 'Grant crazy' is turning out!

For the record, 'need to keep the sexy' would make an excellent tatoo...
Good afternoon Guys. Thank you. I must give Paul (@dockattner ) a shout out for the anchor cables. He made some for my Victory and I had some left overs. The scale on my Xebec may not be 100%, (close enough tho) and they work a treat. Cheers Grant

Those cannons and the anchor work looks great Grant. It’s always a pleasure to look in on your build/s.

(I’m a little concerned that Paul @dockattner is now trying to persuade SOS members to get tattoos though). ;)
Thanks Roger. True story re the “bad” influencer… ROTF, but he sure can build a ship or two. Cheers Grant

Paul, usually you offer sage advice, but a tattoo 'need to keep the sexy' on a guy in his 60s??? I think I might opt for something less permanent, like a bumper sticker. ROTF
