U.S.S. CONSTITUTION, 1:82 SCALE, "OLD IRONSIDES"

Ahoy Ship mates,
Things are starting to go together and this model is beginning to look like a ship. I have been installing frames first the half frames and the full frames.

One problem I have encountered with the half frames is that you don't have much to hold on to when trying to clamp the half frames. I experimented with contact glue

but it just didn't have the strength. I have two frames that I tried the contact glue with that will have to be re-installed with wood glue. Maybe nails will do the trick. I'm open to suggestion.

This is very good looking..... now she is realy getting a ship, step by step

Mike: Have you considered 5 minute epoxy? The part needs to be immobilized for only a short period of time and the epoxy becomes very tacky. Once set up, the bond is strong.

Half frames and cant frames also benefit from an upright or Hahn style jig to hold them in place until the glue dries. One disadvantage of the gantry style jig.
A small saw tooth type jig attachment could be used to hold the half frames in place with the gantry, sorry I didn’t think of it sooner.

Hello Mike
Just found your new POF build, you sure are moving along at a great pace and doing a great job on your ship. Sure do like all of your new shipyard tools and along with Mike 41, you are off to a flying start. I am at a bit of a standstill at the moment as I have just realized that I need a mill in order to do a half decent job on the Scarf Joints. It should arrive next week, I hope. Still building rib frames and slowly sawing them out, it looks like this will be a long-term build for me, ENJOY.
Regards Lawrence

Hi Lawrence,
Thanks foe visiting my build log, and for your kind comments. I just returned from a trip to Wamego, Kansas for my 50th High School Reunion. I'm slowly getting back to work on my build.

Hi Mike
That was very nice that you had a great trip, just dropping by and looking for an update but alas it looks like I am just a bit too early, ENJOY.

Regards Lawrence

I got banished to the garage and with triple digit weather it is just too hot I'll just wait itout. I hope to get back to work soon.

Ahoy Ship Mates,
My keepers tell me they will remove my shackles soon. I hope to be back in the ship yard soon.

I had to promise no more keel hauling. (A little nautical humor)
The weather here is beautiful now so I am getting back to work. I hope to have something to show for my efforts soon.
