Silent Mary by Mellpapa

Hey Melpapa,

really a beautiful ship. Great retaliation and really well built. I'm a particular fan of your figurehead ... I love it. I'm going to build a similar one for the Athena, because you've inspired me to do so.

Best regards

Günther Ship-1

Hi GIG1810,
I'm using plastic model figures for the figureheads.
It's hard to make them all from scratch with putty or carving wood.
Tamiya's quick-drying epoxy putty is excellent.:)

Hello Melpapa,

Thank you very much for your tip. Modelling really isn't quite as easy as it looks. But I'll make an effort.

Your Silent Mary is incredible. I will continue to follow your modelling report. Simply great.

Cheers

It is the ratline tensioning in hell.
A task I am very bad at ...... I will do my best for now.ROTF

I started stretching the ratlines on the main lower mast shrouds. This is the port side and the starboard side at the same time.
This is the starboard side.
I've stretched up to 13 steps, but my eyes are getting tired.Redface

SilentMary-42-29.jpg
This is the port side. This one is also strung up to 13 steps.
When will this ratline be finished?
I don't feel like I've made any progress even though I've finished one step.
I'll be stretching the ratline in July.
I hope the ratline will be finished in July. ......

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SilentMary-42-30.jpg
The starboard side ratline (red arrow) has been completed.
The ratlines have also been completed on the footock shroud (white arrow).Speechless

SilentMary-42-31.jpg
This is the port side ratline (red arrow).
It's hard to see, but the white arrow indicates that the footock shrouds are also finished.

The next step is the ratlines on the fore-row mast shrouds.

One of the most satisfied jobs in shipmodeling. Making ratlines, everybody loves it. Alien
Hi Steef66,
Working on ratlines is hell for me.
A ratline rope is a rope that only needs to support one person.
The thickness of the ratline on the Victory in the UK is about 12.1mm....so 1/98th that's about 0.12mm....I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not, but it's a good thing.
The model of the Silent Mary uses a thin sewing thread of about 0.1 mm.
If the ratline is too thick, it will look too toy-like, so I use the thinnest thread possible.;)

SilentMary-42-32.jpg
We managed to finish the ratline tensioning on the starboard side of the foreroar mast.
The footock shroud area is also finished with ratlines.

SilentMary-42-33.jpg
This is the port side ratline tensioning of the foredeck mast, which we managed to finish.
And the footock shroud section is also finished with ratlines.

SilentMary-42-34.jpg
This is an image from diagonally forward to starboard, with the white paper removed.
Ratlines, thin and hard to see, but that's about it.
The ratline only needs to support one person, so a thin thread is sufficient.
If the ratline is too thick, it will not look good, so we use the thinnest possible thread, about 0.1 mm in diameter, for the sewing thread.

SilentMary-42-35.jpg
Next up is the ratline for the mizzen lower mast.
For now, we will get ready and start putting it up tomorrow.
That's all for today. :)

SilentMary-42-36.jpg
I managed to get the ratline tensioning done on the starboard side of the mizzen lower mast.
There were days when I was too tired from work to do it, though. I guess you can do it if you keep at it.

SilentMary-42-37.jpg
This is the ratline tensioning on the port side of the mizzen lower mast.
We managed to do this one as well.

SilentMary-42-38.jpg
This is what it looks like when the white paper is removed and photographed.
The turrets are removed for fear of breaking them.

SilentMary-42-39.jpg
This is the overall view with the turrets set up.
Now, the next step is to put up the ratlines on each top mast.Speechless
The hard work continues.

SilentMary-42-40.jpg
The rat lines on both sides of the main topmast have been completed.

SilentMary-42-41.jpg
This is an image taken from the upper right side after removing the blank paper.

This is an image taken from the upper left side.

Preparing to rig the ratlines on the foremast.

SilentMary-42-44.jpg
This is a picture of me working hard to set up the rat line.

SilentMary-42-45.jpg
This image shows the rat lines on the foremast after they have been stretched and the preparation paper removed.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SilentMary-42-46.jpg
This image shows the rat lines on the left and right sides of the Mizunto topmast being stretched.
After this, the excess thread was cut off.

SilentMary-42-47.jpg
I cut off the excess thread from the ratline stretched across the Mizunto topmast shroud.
I stretched the ratline across the futok shroud.

SilentMary-42-48.jpg
I cut the excess thread from the ratlines stretched across the port and starboard frotch shrouds, and finished stretching the ratlines on each topmast.
Next up are the ratlines on each topgallant mast.:D

The hard work continues.

Hey Melpapa,

really very nice work. The Silent Mary looks great. I'm still at the beginning of my Athena, but I still have the rigging ahead of me. I have the most respect for messing it up.

Best regards

Hello, GIG1810.
Thank you for your constant support.
The rat line is driving me crazy.

But you don't need to count them all. Just count half of them, then multiply by 2 ...
By the way, you're doing an absolutely beautiful job there.
Hello, Pepite 1/60.
I see, so I just need to count half and double it.:D
But just counting half seems like it would drive me crazy.
I wish some manufacturer would release the Silent Mary as a kit.ROTF

Here is the kit you're asking for. OK, it might need a little update ... For the dedicated, courageous modeller, this one's just for sale on eBay:

I already have mine :p .

Hello, Pepite 1/60.
It seems that you would have to make quite a few modifications to this kit in order to convert it into the Silent Mary. Speechless
However, someone who is skilled with their hands might be able to use this kit as a base to build the Silent Mary.;)
