Silent Mary by Mellpapa

Hey Melpapa,

really a beautiful ship. Great retaliation and really well built. I'm a particular fan of your figurehead ... I love it. I'm going to build a similar one for the Athena, because you've inspired me to do so.

Best regards

Hi GIG1810,
I'm using plastic model figures for the figureheads.
It's hard to make them all from scratch with putty or carving wood.
Tamiya's quick-drying epoxy putty is excellent.:)

Hello Melpapa,

Thank you very much for your tip. Modelling really isn't quite as easy as it looks. But I'll make an effort.

Your Silent Mary is incredible. I will continue to follow your modelling report. Simply great.

Cheers

It is the ratline tensioning in hell.
A task I am very bad at ...... I will do my best for now.ROTF

I started stretching the ratlines on the main lower mast shrouds. This is the port side and the starboard side at the same time.
This is the starboard side.
I've stretched up to 13 steps, but my eyes are getting tired.Redface

SilentMary-42-29.jpg
This is the port side. This one is also strung up to 13 steps.
When will this ratline be finished?
I don't feel like I've made any progress even though I've finished one step.
I'll be stretching the ratline in July.
I hope the ratline will be finished in July. ......

The starboard side ratline (red arrow) has been completed.
The ratlines have also been completed on the footock shroud (white arrow).Speechless

This is the port side ratline (red arrow).
It's hard to see, but the white arrow indicates that the footock shrouds are also finished.

The next step is the ratlines on the fore-row mast shrouds.

One of the most satisfied jobs in shipmodeling. Making ratlines, everybody loves it. Alien
Hi Steef66,
Working on ratlines is hell for me.
A ratline rope is a rope that only needs to support one person.
The thickness of the ratline on the Victory in the UK is about 12.1mm....so 1/98th that's about 0.12mm....I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not, but it's a good thing.
The model of the Silent Mary uses a thin sewing thread of about 0.1 mm.
If the ratline is too thick, it will look too toy-like, so I use the thinnest thread possible.;)

SilentMary-42-32.jpg
We managed to finish the ratline tensioning on the starboard side of the foreroar mast.
The footock shroud area is also finished with ratlines.

SilentMary-42-33.jpg
This is the port side ratline tensioning of the foredeck mast, which we managed to finish.
And the footock shroud section is also finished with ratlines.

SilentMary-42-34.jpg
This is an image from diagonally forward to starboard, with the white paper removed.
Ratlines, thin and hard to see, but that's about it.
The ratline only needs to support one person, so a thin thread is sufficient.
If the ratline is too thick, it will not look good, so we use the thinnest possible thread, about 0.1 mm in diameter, for the sewing thread.

Next up is the ratline for the mizzen lower mast.
For now, we will get ready and start putting it up tomorrow.
That's all for today. :)
