HMS Enterprise 1774 POF 1:48.

Good morning Gentlemen.

I decided it was time to re glue my stern timbers on for the third time:p. I absolutely know I will break them again so to strengthen them the windows and supports are to be done.

Whew this takes a long time………

I decided I am going to build this as per the kit with some of Grants creations.

Stern timbers with the inner window guides:
IMG_7644.jpeg
I added some walnut panels to the “guides” to keep the aesthetics of my cabin.

Windows. The kit windows are very cool boxwood. It takes a minute to cut these out and clean up. The inner side does chip so for my other windows I need to find another way of cutting these out.
IMG_7670.jpeg
The reverse side is just flat. I am having a very open upper deck so I added some frames on the reverse side for the glass to go in. In the pic below you can see the thin inner frames where they broke when cutting.I gave my first ultra thin glass cutting a go. Wasn’t tooooo bad.
IMG_7682.jpeg
Had to clean up the pillars- this was a mission. I think they are made from bone?
IMG_7683.jpeg
I stuck every thing on with prestick so excuse the alignment and prestick oozing out.
IMG_7675.jpeg
It is best to take all the kit pieces and check if I got my framing right, stern timber angles spot on, etc……..IMG_7689.jpeg
…….MOSTLYROTFROTFROTF.

I was reasonably happy how the slid in nicely however there is plenty adjustments to do.

With little head scratching and some alignment work, I’m sure she will come out pretty good.

Will I ever show you guys a finished product….ROTFROTFROTF. Ricochet Rabbit is on fireExplosionExplosion.

Cheers Grant

Time, patience, steady hands and some handy tools are all you need to bring this to a finish, Grant. Keep the RR on fire!

Oh heck yes, you got this Grant. I'm going to check out this Prestik stuff, I can see it might be like having two or three extra pairs of hands helping out.

Good morning Peter. I agree. This is going to take some time. Every improvement I make to the kit adds 0.5 to 1.5 thickness to the kit design so I have to keep planning here. It does help to get everything ready and improved before I glue anything. So far the changes appear to be possible……in theory:oops:
Looking good, Grant. For myself I have hit a bit of a slump with the Santa Maria build and need to reinspire myself. Not due to any difficulties, just feeling a bit 'meh' with it at the moment. Regards.
Hello Graham. Thank you for popping in and the compliment. So far so good although I need to slow down and start finishing some areas. Last year this time I also had a bit of a modelling slump ( a “meh”)- not a bad thing.
Looks very promising, Grant! I have every confidence you will be able to nuance that stern facade into something you will be proud of. Ricochet away!
Good morning Paul. Thanks for the reassurance. I was just going to build as per the kit but there are many aspects which need changing. This is the test of framing etc as any deviation will now reveal itself………Redface. So far all appears good just one area of about 0.5mm. It’s crazy how such a small error impacts the ship. Anyway plenty planning as each thing I change requires a mode elsewhere to maintain symmetry and appearance. I will get this right or fail miserably- no middle ground here.

Hello Daniel. I think my logic and planning will prevail……it’s going to be a slow process for sure:). Prestick only works to view what something may look like. It is not strong enough to hold things securely while building. Would be amazing if it did. You also have to only leave it on very briefly as it is oil based and can leave a mark on wood so extra sanding will be needed. Good for planning multiple parts tho.
I agree, you got this Grant. :)
Good morning Roger. Thank you. I sometimes wonder why we give ourselves extra work for a few improvements…..Ha it’s what makes this hobby super fun. So far I do think it will all work - doesn’t look like it from the pic - but nothing really aligned yet . We shall seeROTF
On the wood windows, have you tried apply some sanding sealer used on balsa and other light open pour woods to fill fibers to make for better cutting and sanding.
Thanks Kurt. No this is new to me and worth considering for future projects. I have finished cutting them out now and I got them mostly good. Luckily it takes a macro photo to see the blemishes so I’m still reasonably happy with the outcome.

Cheers Grant

Wow, I missed the wedding. Everything you do and have around you is beautiful. Your son-in-law has the best father-in-law in the world.

Cheers Beer Beer ;)

Good afternoon Lorenzo. Thank you very much for these kind words. I am having lunch with them just now and I will show him your post. Michael better remember this;).

Good afternoon everyone.
Just a quick post. My windows are slowly coming together. Again prestick and clamps hold it together.

So much fine tuning to do but I think I will get this- plenty mods from kit which in hindsight made my life difficult .

I’m not so sure about the cabin side…..may rework this.

Prestick the pillars

The black is very prominent however there are a gazillion boxwood decorations to add so I think will look cool.

At least my stern timers will no longer get snapped off when I am doneROTF.
