Thanks.
On another note, I have reached out now 2-3 times regarding availability of Firiezes for the hull without response from Victor who did indicate they would be offered.
Any update would be appreciated.

Cannot tell exactly from your picture but it appears you've closed gap at bottom of hawse pieces, the air gap remains constant right to frames.
If I understand correctly, your ? about inside hawse angle is resolved by simply laying on the jig and tapering hawse until it follows flow of jig....final sanding when fitted.

As far as deck beams.....ends butt against sides of keel, On lower deck not super critical since deck beams, lower beam ends, carlings are mostly covered up with waterway planks found, as Victor pointer out, on G4

Beam placements easily ID'd by taking close look at PDF, shows port location and which frame on port to locate ends of platforms.....pretty straight forward.
This method I used and everything measured out.....biggest risk is if wrong, compartments will obstruct knees, hanging knees.....following what I described I had zero interference on any.
Do be aware the sheets for all compartment walls are general, not exact, you need to make "modelers judgement" as to exact height, length to fit under beams and between knees. Their EXACT measurement not critical.....just insure all fit.

P.S. when fitting up inside beams, I'd highly recommend only using 3-4 jigs at a time, mark beams with light pencil, then use medium CA, very lightly......will bond in 10 seconds or so, and follow right from bow to transom.
I can tell you, using this methodology all my deck beams came out dead level the entire deck.
This was a major concern because never used this system but it worked out very well.......never required any measurement from plan with height gauge.
Knees require fair bit of adjustment to follow flow/taper of frames.....be advised.

Is this the HMS Surprise/Unité kit they show coming out soon? I hope the photo on their website is not supposed to be the Surprise.

Thats the one
Its the guy who designed the Caldercraft and Amati Victory
Looking at his other models it will be really good
A coolegue does a FULL build wih instructions better than DE LOngli and hopefully as good as he best Amati
He manufactures then in the UK most if the work hw has a workshop where is manufactured
Never bought a kit from there
I amnow having to admit I just cant build models lke i used too

This model kit of Surprise is confusing as the kit looks more like the Surprize, spelled with a Z. The Surprise spelled with an S at that time was a French capture, the Unité, renamed Surprise. There are drawings from July 1796 at RMG of her, which was normal RN protocol to make drawings of captures. I wonder which one the kit is supposed to represent. The Surprise from Master and Commander was supposed to be the French capture Unite, not the converted merchant ship Surprize. The Surprise plan is obviously a French hull shape and it had eight stern lights compared to seven on Surprize. The photo above looks like it will only have seven lights like the merchant ship conversion. They have different figure heads, there is a capstan on the FC on the French capture and they have a different number of gunports. It will be interesting to see which ship is the kit ship. Fun mystery. :):)

Thanks Allan, That's an interesting thread! Mamoli's and Artesana's haven't got a french hull at all.

Allan, back than grammatically both version was correct ,you could write either way
Totally agree with you, but the drawings are definitely two different ships. The question to me is whether the kit is the Surprise 1774 or the Surprise/Unite. The kit looks more like the Surprize 1774 than Unite to me and from what I could find, the kit is supposed to be the Surprise 1796. There was a build log of this proposed kit at MSW but no way to find it now.

It is the Unite version and is based off those plans. I believe Chis is including two figurehead options so people can go with the historically accurate one or the movie one depending on their desires.

Looking at the photo below, there would only be 7 stern lights including those at the galleries. The drawing of Unite shows 8. This is what started my confusion. :)

The strange thing is both plans say they are unite even though as you say they are clearly different ships. The RMG entry labels them both as Surprise (captured 1796). Both are signed by J Marshall which places them in 1795-1801 period.

You are right that it does appear that the kit is based on the upper plan.

Ok guys ,this thread is about the Enterprise from MD and we are discussing another kit from another manufacturer, please keep the discussion about the Enterprise

Thank you
