Thank you Peter. I am satisfied with the result. On the finished model they can only be seen through opened gunports, but still I made them to the best of my abilities now. And a good way to improve my carving skills for all the carvings on the stern and galeries. You did a great job with the carving of those 4 statues, Herman.
Regards, Peter
Thank you Christian.Really wonderful carvings
Thank you Paul. Well, the first one took me several evenings, “designing” and carving simultaneously. The next three one day, and reworking all four of them this afternoon.Outstanding, Herman! And done very quickly too! Those would have taken me days and days...and still not have come out as nice as yours have!
Thank you Stephan for your generous words. You are quite right, let’s embrace the differences of handwork. To make them all the same by hand is so difficult, but who cares if there are differences when the outcome is superb.
Thank you Marc.Really lovely carved works, Herman. Faces are so difficult to do, and your ladies have full dance cards ahead of them.
And your full name isn’t Herman ‘van de Velde’?Small steps. I carved the letters for the nameplate, glued them on the banner and filed them to an appropriate thickness and polished them with an old toothbrush.
As per the drawing of Willem van de Velde:

Thank you Wojtas. Yes, patience is a much needed virtue for this. It will probably take me years to make all sculptures.Beautiful. You have a hand and patience for sculptures
Thank you Bill for your kind words. Much appreciated.Hello Herman,
That is beautiful work!
Bill
Thanks Peter. To be a descendant of Willem van de Velde would have been nice. I certainly would have appreciated an inheritance in the form of some paintings covering my walls. And your full name isn’t Herman ‘van de Velde’?
You made a very beautiful woodcarving of what Willem drew.
Regards, Peter

The three planked sections will be painted phtalo green. A dark green/blue color I have chosen that should contrast great with the color of pear, at least I hope so, I am colorblind.... especially for the colors green and blue. It will be also be applied to the clinker planking and base color for the stern.
To both sides of the doors a statue of a female will be placed.
The first figurine is as good as ready. There is room for improvement, but I am happy with the result. Three more to go.

All parts are provisionally set up to give an impression of what it will look like. Nothing glued down yet. The boards will be painted first and mounted once they are dry.
