You did a great job with the carving of those 4 statues, Herman.
Regards, Peter
Thank you Peter. I am satisfied with the result. On the finished model they can only be seen through opened gunports, but still I made them to the best of my abilities now. And a good way to improve my carving skills for all the carvings on the stern and galeries.

Outstanding, Herman! And done very quickly too! Those would have taken me days and days...and still not have come out as nice as yours have!
Thank you Paul. Well, the first one took me several evenings, “designing” and carving simultaneously. The next three one day, and reworking all four of them this afternoon.

Small steps. I carved the letters for the nameplate, glued them on the banner and filed them to an appropriate thickness and polished them with an old toothbrush.

As per the drawing of Willem van de Velde:

And your full name isn’t Herman ‘van de Velde’?
You made a very beautiful woodcarving of what Willem drew.
Regards, Peter

Found my way back to the shipyard again. I am now working on the aft bulkhead of the gundeck.

The three planked sections will be painted phtalo green. A dark green/blue color I have chosen that should contrast great with the color of pear, at least I hope so, I am colorblind.... especially for the colors green and blue:rolleyes:. It will be also be applied to the clinker planking and base color for the stern.

To both sides of the doors a statue of a female will be placed.

The first figurine is as good as ready. There is room for improvement, but I am happy with the result. Three more to go.

All parts are provisionally set up to give an impression of what it will look like. Nothing glued down yet. The boards will be painted first and mounted once they are dry.

beautiful carving Herman

The 7P name banner and the carvings are examples of exquisite work, Herman. The 7P is such an impressive ship and just to take on a build like this is a mammoth task. If it takes a few years to complete, so what? The time you are investing is resulting in a superb rendition of her - one you can be immensely proud of.
