USS CONSTITUTION REVELL 1/96 scale

30 some odd yers ago I built this kit complete with cloth sails and all the running rigging functional. The hardest part was the rigging - so just take your time. All in all I had about 2 1/2 years invested in her but it was well worth the time spent. Yours is comming along nicely. Keep up the good work.

Thank you. I just did the eyelets (76) of them today and that was hard on the eyes. Lol

Just a quick thought, I am a retired naval aircraft mechanic. I followed instruction manuals to a tee as i was egress systems. I’ve seen a lot of great suggestions on this log but should I shy away from the instructions? I was following them but found out the hard way concerning the hatches over the cannons. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Often a combination is the best solution - every time we as modelers have to think about the next steps - The manuals are showing only one way of execution, but for the individuals like humans are, some other sequence fits better.....

I’m just having a hard time with my “artistic” abilities. Lol Thanks for the insight. It’s been a while since I’ve done any modeling but am enjoying it. Just want to get it right.

So, I took a posters advice and bought a “lazy Suzy” which works great unless you snag your sleeve on the bow and list her over breaking 5 cannons and 4 hatches. Well, 4 days later of accounting for missing pieces and repairs I’m finally back on track. Now on the upper cannons.

Sorry it’s been a bit since I’ve posted... been out of town. Here are my latest updates. Just some friendly advice to any who are attempting this build, MAKE SURE YOU SECURE THE LOWER DECK CANNONS SOLIDLY. Yeah, I snapped a couple loose and trying to Reglue them after the top deck is on is painful. Lol

Sorry to hear about this mishap. I think we all have had those moments.

I was wondering about the carriages of the guns, which are looking somehow different to everything else I know - much longer than usual naval gun carriages

First thought was, that these are wrong installed, but seems, that Revell is using them in this way
Here is a nice built model showing the same

Looks like they shall show these on - photo of the actual USS Constitution

But maybe the Conny had a different gunnery in the past

Do you know the book of the Anatomy of the Ships series The 44-Gun Frigate USS Constitution, "Old Ironsides" written by Karl Heinz Marquardt ?

This might be interesting for you...... unfortunately we do not have a Book Review until now

Ok fellow modelers. I am at an impasse. Can someone please explain why the instructions call out 15 cleats for the quarterdeck rails and there are 17 slots for them? I have gone through the instructions to ensure that i will not need the extra 4 for future endeavors. Cannot see anything else, and as obvious as it may seem, I want to be sure.

Just an update. Finally finished the cannons, the bow, and am starting the side rails. I wish I would’ve done the stanchions off the model as tying the roping along the rails is time consuming and the stanchions are very delicate.

Haven’t had much headway. Stanchions took their toll. Had to repair 6. Still moving along
