Finished Syren so I started a smaller project as a "breather" before I launch another multi-year build.

The scale is 1:24 but it's a small enough boat to only measure 26 inches stem to stern. The wood parts are all plywood and boxwood as most MS kits are. The quality is good. The white metal parts are plentiful and realistic looking. The only thing I'm going to replace there are the barrels which really should be wood. The rigging line is the same poor quality MS thread, I'll replace all the lines with better stuff.

What's really cool is the brass etched decorations for the wales and stern.

The question I have for you gents is this: Although the photo etched decorations on the stern are nice it still looks odd without a ship name also on the stern. What kind of ship would carry this type of armed longboat, and if it's land based what would make a nice name? I'd like to add that feature but don't want it to be ridiculous.

Cutting the rabbit was a tad tricky. The bearding line was printed on one side of the center keel for the back section and on the other side of the keel for the front section. I'm not sure why they didn't do it on both sides for both sections (cost control?) but it requires the builder to take careful measurements from the printed side and transfer it to the other side. We're talking about distances less than 1/32" and it's almost impossible to do it accurately even using a pencil sharpened to a deadly point. Oh well, some kits don't even include a printed bearding line so I'm considering myself lucky.

All the bulkheads and stern transom installed. I faired the bulkheads and found two to be about 1/16" too low. No amount of sanding will bring these bulkheads in line with the others. These bulkheads are exactly on line with the laser cut bearding line so I can only assume it's a flaw in these two bulkheads themselves.

No problem, I glued down strips on the bottom of these two bulkheads (#2 and #3) and can sand them down so they are on the same level as the bordering bulkheads. It's just the bottoms, up near the wales it's nice and flush.
