New kit 1:160 midship cross-section of the HMS Enterprise 1774

Made my order yesterday morning.
When there are a few more, perhaps time for a ‘Group Build’? With 2 sub-groups for the ‘Stern-Section’ and the ‘Midschip-Section’. :)
Regards, Peter

I received my Stern section from Dry-Dock this week. When I had it in my hands, I hesitated to order the midsection as I am afraid I will not be able to build it. But still it is jumping in my mind. Guys, please, start your build logs ASAP. I can take courage from them :-) .

Best !!
Daniel

I received my Stern section
I noticed on earlier photos they had posted that they include a double wheel which would be very unusual for a 28. RMG drawings for Enterprise 1774 and the contemporary contract call for a single wheel. I double checked other contracts on larger vessels of the era to see if they specify double wheels when called for and those contracts are explicit in describing a double. Not a big deal, but for such a nice kit, I was surprised this was missed.

Hello Alan,

I hope I have understood correctly. You write that the steering wheel should not be double, but that it should only be a single steering wheel, right? Or do you want to check that?

Interesting point. The 1/48 MD instructions show it as a single.

Yes Gunther, you are correct. Sorry for not being clear. :( The contemporary drawing of her before she was relegated to being a receiving ship for impressed sailors and the original contract dated 16 July 1776 for her sister ship Aurora 1777 both indicate there was a single wheel, not a double on these 28s.

Thanks, but still plodding along with my Ontario build. I wanted to try a cross section POF build to see how that goes before trying something bigger like your full sized Enterprise build.

Hey Alan,

Now I've understood. I'll keep that in mind if I can also order the rear section. First I'll see how I get on with the small model.

Best regards

Guys, I couldn't stop myself, after taking a second look to the stern section with my wife, to evaluate its size, she convinced me that if I don't swear too much during the build, I can do it. HAHAHA. So I ordered the midsection today.

My Friend, I appreciate you following my builds, allways with good and excellent suggestions.

First I need to finish the BR cross section. After it, I will probably start the stern section, to prove myself if I can manage this built. Depending of the results, I will follow with this one.

I have so many kits !!! . In the following weeks, I will start to sell some. My taste and house space have changed. Let see how I filter my kit collection.

Cheers
Daniel

The open framing of the ship's boats is really nice to see, especially at this tiny scale. VERY impressive!

Is there a reason you used what look a lot like Commonwealth pattern guns (1650-1715) instead of Armstrong Frederick pattern guns (1760-1790) which would have been on the Enterprise 1774? At this tiny scale I am guessing few would notice, but it is just as easy to make the AF as it is to make the Commonwealth pattern. The missing chase astragal ring and button ring is what sort of jumped out.

No matter, it's great to see a fully framed model kit at such a small scale. Well done!

Thanks
Allan
I'm so glad you like what we've achieved! Regarding the guns of the HMS Enterprise, my colleague was depicted them according to the drawings obtained. If you have insights in this regard, we would be happy to discuss them together.
