1/30 HMS Royal Caroline Build

Hi Rick,

Be aware that the door you are using above is not the door to be used here.
The door you show is the door for the two outside staircases to the lower deck.
If you are using that for the inner cabin you have one short for the outside.

You are right the cabin doors supplied are the wrong size, I have made all these inner doors myself.
Hi Marten,
I understand what you mean but that isn't the doors you speak of. I cut out the square section of the door that was supposed to go there from the kit manufacturer and inserted into the scratch built door ( See pic in brochure). Since there's no drawings of the Day Cabins Interior, I decided to improvise and add the section to the door to dress up the door for visual effects only. Here's a few pics for clarification.........

Hello everyone,
Been awhile since I have downloaded any pictures. Here are some pics of the Day Cabin construction. The Kit has the inner Day Cabins window Frames as the same shape as the outer window frames. This is not correct per the Plans from the Royal Museum in Greenwich & AOS. I will be adding 6 Upper Housing Deck Beams & Knees and the unmodified window frames would cause a lot of issues.. I also corrected the Day Cabins inside Deck base trim (waterway).

Rick it is so good to see your progress on the RC. And man oh man ... this is what I am talking about. You will not find better kit model building than this anywhere on the planet. This is what happens when one of the best model builders meets up with one of the - if not the - best kit in the world! - You are doing her full justice - Keep it coming my friend!

Thank you for the kind words my friend!!!

So begins the long tedious Deck planking process. Based on the Plans from the Royal Museum in Greenwich & AOS, the Deck Planks were 6 inches wide. I am using 5.15mm Basswood strips to get the correct scale. On 6 inch Planks or smaller, typically there was only one plug used (not always) on the Deck Beams & when Planks were butted together. I debated if I was going to tree nail (Plugs) the Deck because on real ships and the scale of this model, you really wouldn't notice them (To Include the Tree Nails on the Hulls Planking). I decided to install the Plugs because I do like the look. I will drill all the Plug Holes & install the (Tree Nail) Plugs after the Deck Planks are finished. I have only roughed marked Plug holes with a pencil.

After scrapping the Deck Planks, I Fine sanded the Inner Bulwarks where they meet up with the Waterways to get a nice even match (Ugh-More Touch up Painting to do). I then proceeded to Line out all the Deck Plank Beam Locations and marked out with Tamiya Tape. By doing this, one can get a nice straight Deck Beam line. I marked out all the Tree Nail locations and pre-drilled the holes to accept the 1mm Plug Dowel.
