Looking very good - I love this parquet floor
Wit the fixed deck beams with laying knees and after the installation of the complete deck it will be hard to install afterwards the hanging knees (if they are planned)
One question to the window which is looking a little bit disordered

Uwe... I found where was the window issue. Looking back my posted pictures , I realuzed that i placed the wrong window HAHAHA

The idea was to show that I was able to solve the internal counter planking issue pointed by Jodie, not the window(s) fittings/position. I place the without giving any thoughts to the position. Now, after I post my answer to you, went back to my post and saw the confusion.

I think, at least visually from my view: In your first photo, the window should go to the right side as it is positioned now. In your second photo, the window seems to be upside down, IMHO. But that could be an optical illusion.

Thank you very much. Could be you are correct. I tried to answer Uwe observation this morning the best I could. Looks fine to me, but still I don't see it perfect either. Let's postpone this window chat till the time I will be really 100 % concentrated on its built.

Uwe and your observations are due to the transom curvature. The transom was designed by Jodie and Mike carved it using 3D CNC.

Picture from Jodie's log. Transom 3D curvature can be seen clearly. Most of the market kits, if not all, have their transom cut from flat wood sheets.


The windows I used for my previous posting fit perfectly on the transom FLAT drawing.

Now the windows paper drawing. See alignment with cutting Matt when flat. But the internal windows frames looks differently when placed on the transom.



Now Uwe posted picture with the red lines and below the same picture, with the windows drawing, instead of the wood window.




Now the drawing on a curved surface.



Bottom line, when the transom is flat , the windows looks like in the book pictures. When the transom is 3D curved, more like a real ship, the windows interior frames position looks differently.

That effect can be seen in real ship pictures too.


The Stern Constitution white columns aren't vertical (Windows are closed on that picture)

It is all a visual effect created by the stern curvature.

Bryian nice to see you back !!! Thank you for your comments. I am trying to do my best here. I will move on with the hull planking now. But, guess what, I need to sand more. I placed the whale and ... Bingo, it isn't flat all the way. Sanding and more hull sanding, a never ending story HAHAHA

The guy will be painted soon. For now my focus is the Stern built. Paint can wait. Besides, I will not paint him. That will be a call for disaster. My wife will do it.

Just a little update of what I have been doing this week and where I am.

- installed the wales. Wales were giving me a lot of trouble at the end of the stern due to the hull curvature. So I decided to nail them. Due to that I will nail the full hull.

-Started the hull planking. I still need a few last planks to add. I will add those in the future, not at this stage of the built. The planks are hard maple. Difficult to manage. I will need another week, at least to finish it

Hi All

There was a change on my planking strategy. I was working adding the hull nails but the color variation on the hard maple planks was really bothering me. I just didn't like it. See below picture.



I decided to do something. I have PearWood veneer (0.6 mm). Cut strips with my Byrnes table saw, the same width as the Maple planks, and did a second planking.

I am really satisfied and happy with the results. See below pictures.

One side is fully planked and finished. The other side I need to add a plank and then the pear veneer over it.



I can't wait to see the boxwood carvings with the pear wood as background.

Hi all

Its been a long time since my last posting about "Anatomy of the Bounty from AL". We moved to Florida from MA and took months to pack and unpack. My new workshop is far away to be ready. But I need to start doing some ship modeling. The trigger was the box I received last Friday from Mike Shanks.

Thank you Mike for this present !!!!

My built will be slow, as I am still setting up the new house and planting Palms . Nevertheless I expect to learn a lot with this model. Wish me good luck and a lot of fun.
