A new carving project - a lion figurehead of the ship la Belle Poule

good night dear friends
Your support and encouragement in the comments, likes and smiles and of course the love of the creation gave me the courage to continue this challenging project. :) :D
Tonight I dedicated about four hours to carve the front area where the lion holds a kind of scroll/banner from which an oval protrudes and in which the emblem of the royal house is carved. I would like to emphasize that I am still in the middle of the work, so this is an unfinished product. I started by erasing the previous ellipse I made because it was not in the center and accurate. I drew the contours of the scroll and the ellipse in relation to the feet that will be carved later. From there I just started carving carefully, fitness in the middle of the piece I sharpened for about 45 minutes the different chisels and knives, critical to achieving proper results. I will share with you photos from the process that is still in progress

good evening dear friends
Tonight I continued to create the lion figure, while tonight I focused on continuing to create a poster/sheet held by the lion.
Today I worked on carving the space between the banner and the lion's chest. Later and at the same time I started to create the two front legs of the lion, with the feet resting on the top and front part of the sheet/poster.
I would like to say that at the moment I have carved only one leg and that I am in the middle of the creation which gives me great satisfaction.20220811_212302.jpg20220811_212313.jpg20220811_212319.jpg20220811_212331.jpg20220811_231547.jpg20220811_231554.jpg20220811_231603.jpg20220811_231802.jpg

I would like to say that I know the lion looks nice but I intend to leave the work on the face for a later stage and make it scary bordering on the grotesque:D

good evening dear friends
Today I sat down to continue my carving project, today I moved on to carving the lion's tail and also started to give the area of the lion's mane fine engravings to give a hair texture.
I started the tail by drawing with a 0.4 millimeter pencil, then I started to engrave the outline of the tail.

Later I started to carve wood to give the contours of the thigh, belly and back of the lion (there is more work to get to the final result).

I continued carving the tail from the butt to the small mane at the end of the tail.
I will let you get an impression of the photos documenting the process and the intermediate result.

Dear Shota
3d printers, cnc carving all require a great skill but I do love your old fashion manual work. Keep up the good work.

This is really turning out nice Shota! Be patient - now it not a time to get in a hurry!
thank you very much my dear friend :)
I completely agree with you!
After a few days of carving the lion ,
I feel a little full, so I decided to return to the Alert in the coming week.
during the break a will gather creative spirit for the lion .
A wise man said that first and foremost you should enjoy the journey and that before getting the goal

Hi Shota, I just found this log. I am happy you are carving a figurehead. So far it’s looking promising. And you understand the approach, to remove material around the highest areas first and remove the deepest areas last. On the crown, I actually turned the profile shape first, then I started carving that. But I had a head start on my figurehead. I do want to carve one from scratch as you are doing. Keep up the good work! ;)

good evening dear friends
After a break of almost three weeks (during which I focused on the Alert's gun powder room), I returned to the lion carving project.
This time I decided to focus on the legs area, I started studying their outlines from the model/toy, photos and drawings I printed.
Since I only had a one and a half hour to carve, I focused on deepening the outline of the legs and the space between the two hind legs through which the lion figure was fitted to the prow of the ship.
I will attach pictures of the carving process, the first one will be from where I left off at the beginning of the month.
Of course, I still have a lot of carving work ahead of me before it can be called legs that honor our lion :D
Good night wherever you are on earth20220812_232518.jpg20220831_204359.jpg20220831_204422.jpg20220831_204431.jpg20220831_204727.jpg20220831_205038.jpg20220831_205528.jpg20220831_215155.jpg
