Just started this kit and from the video instructions I’ve seen It looks a very detailed build As the construction videos are on their website I won’t be doing a build log as such but will post progress pics probably at the end of each construction video completion

Just completed the first instruction video, as expected the parts didn’t fit together as easily as the guy in the video is managing it but it does go together well. Taken me a bit longer than expected as I’ve been a bit under the weather for a few days The ply pieces that define the line at the bottom of the open hull on the starboard side would not bend enough without soaking in water ( not shown or mentioned in the video) , so if anyone is going to do this kit, bare that in mind. I may shelve this now till after Christmas as her indoors wants the tree up and that goes where I have my indoor work space and it’s a bit too cold to transfer work to the garden cabin We’ll see

Not that our vote counts...but I agree...move the tree...I have been looking forward to a build log on this model because it is definitely on my wish list. Thanks for posting and I would appreciate hearing any of your comments on the kit as you progress.

If our votes are vetoed by your Admiral, I guess we will hear from you after Christmas....so Happy Holidays!!!!

Good morning. Wow, this is a very interesting kit. That skeleton looks so cool. I have pulled up my chair and will follow this build. Cheers Grant

I just this week came across the YouTube videos of this new Victory kit by Artesania Latina. I kept saying “wow” as I watched. But I just finished my build of the previous version of Victory by AL!!! I’m not imagining doing it all over again LOL. I really like the amount of detail in the lower decks that the new kit provides. And it had a light kit! Go for that add on. I actually did lights on my build. It presented some definite challenges that I had to figure out myself.

I’ve started watching some of the build videos of the new kit. I’m very interested to see how they describe doing all the standing and running rigging, but it doesn’t look like they have produced those yet. Probably the kit is so new that no one is that far along yet.

Yeah it is quite new videos just up to 29 out of 80 odd. I did get the light kit as I think that really brings the ship to life especially with all the open deck details. I added my own lighting to a Del Prado Victory that I made many changes to a few years back and never competed it

Maybe it's me but making limber boards like that looks like a lot of extra work. These were actually plain boards that rested against the keelson and inboard most strake of planks with the frames exposed so that there was a space under the limber boards. It seems it would be a lot simpler to just make up these small pieces, drill the finger holes just like they were on a ship them glue in place. In the end yours do look the same except for the missing holes and butts between pieces. The sketch below is how they look in the end but once your model is decked, no one will know. I just thought to maybe save you and others unnecessary work from shaping triangular cross section pieces in the future.

I see what you’re saying but I personally don’t mind the extra work. On this model the hull is open on the starboard side revealing lots of detail on all decks and although some of it is covered, I know it’s there. Below is a pic of the almost completed hold that I will reach in another 4 instruction videos

hello Allan,

looks great ! I am at about the same point on my AL HMS Victory build; video 3. At 3:59 into video #3, they reference item "J". I have not been able to find either the paper template or the cutout for "J". Ant idea where that would be?
thank you and not sure how much help I could be given this is my first ship...... I must be crazy!!

Sorry, I was just cleaning up my disaster of a workbench and the paper template fell out for "J". No surprise I guess.

Hi, big project to take on for a first build
This is only my 2nd but am well versed in all sorts of modelling techniques as I’m sure you must be, if not then you are crazy
The parts P you refer to are small paper templates to cut out from the sheet made from WS3 strips at the start of video 3
Hope this helps

Happy New Year to you Alan,
Do the instructions show the second shot locker on the opposite side of the of the well? There was one on each side on 4th rates and larger. Contemporary plans show the second shot locker and details around the magazines that may be interesting to you and others. I realize the plan below is from Victory before her rebuild in 1803 but I would be surprised if they reduced the storage for shot on such a large ship.

Hi, from what I’ve read, the 2 shot lockers were around the main and fore masts
I think I will be constructing the fore mast one in the next video. Here is a pic of the almost completed hold. Think I reach that stage at about video 6/7
