Batavia 1628 (1:72) Kolderstok Build log

Thanks for the likes and the comments. Much appreciated.

Last week, I continued working on the new yard layout (work desk) and the ratlines of the port side Foremast.
This is now complete, except for finishing the futtock stave and shortening the excess length of the ratlines.

Next week we'll continue with the new workbench, finishing the futtock stave on the port side and then starting the ratlines on the starboard side.
Since I have to move the ship and its work base every time to work on it, which my wife saw a few times, the new workbench setup will have a slight priority over the Batavia.

"You need a good workspace. Don't just move your keyboards and sit there. Prioritize."
Those were my wife's words. So we'll follow them. ;)

Have a great week of building, everyone.
It still looks nice and tidy, Clemens. And with your wife's wise words in mind, you should get started quickly.
Regards, Peter

Clemens,

Just found your log. Such excellent work. Paint work looks so realistic, rigging super well detailed. Great log. Excellent execution all around.
will follow.....

Regards,

PS; Loved my time in Greece

The update for this week.
I worked on the new shipyard and I hope to finish it next week so I can start modeling from the new yard.
Now I use my work desk as the yard every evening. With the change on damage when moving it.

Current status of the shipyard.
The worktop is made of laminate (left over) and everything is made of used and/or residual wood.

This week I worked on starboard side on the Fore Shrouds with the ratlines.
The current status is:

I see that I have to lower the last top ratline a little. And also the Futtock stave. (Miner detail ;) )

The last image is an overview of the Batavia on the new workbench (not yet fixed) with a blank background.

Next week is finishing the ratlines and start with the Fore stay. Maybe start with the Crowsfeet.
This is it for today.

Thank you for your kind words and the likes.

I've been experiencing "flu symptoms" this past week. This meant I wasn't constantly running in and out doors and working on the new shipyard.
So that was on hold this week.
Besides my daily work as an IT consultant, I was still able to work on the Batavia.
I finished the rigging of the foremast and covered the Futtock stave.
Then I installed the forestay and fitted it with the necessary blocks.

The connection of the Fore stay and the bowsprit

As can be seen, only four of the five holes in the block have been used.
The fifth, in the middle, will later be used for the rope that will tension the backstay, which will then be routed to the lower right for tying.
There are still some light glue residues visible on the shrouds, the Futtock stave, and the connection to the bowsprit.
These will be treated with a drop of "oak brown" paint.

The next step was to install the "Mast top," the "Fore topmast," and the corresponding "wind rope" (do not know if this is the correct word) to the deck.
NOTE: The wind rope should run BETWEEN the cross tree and then through the bottom of the Fore topmast. Not around it. This is an easy mistake and usually difficult to correct.

Because things were going well this week, I had some time on Friday and Saturday to also place the "Crowsfeet" on the Fore mast/stay.

Which still needs to be finished and the short remnants trimmed away.

Finally, another overview photo of the current situation. With part of the "backstay" already attached to the right of the spritmast.

The new shipyard isn't finished yet, but it's a great place to photograph the progress.
It's slowly starting to take shape.

Have a great week of ship building and stay healthy!
