Corsair H.M.S. Enterprize Build Log

Since none of my frames are glued onto the keel yet, I took out all the frames and then the keel so I could better see things and checked the fit of each frame individually onto the keel itself. Now that that is done. I have put the keel back in the construction jig and made sure that the slots on the keel match up with the slots in the construction jig so it will result in attaching the frames at 90 degrees. I will start gluing them in place soon and I still need to sand the bevel onto the edges of frames 30 through 37. :)

A very decent model and kit in general, especially in 1/48 scale. If I were choosing the next project, this kit would be at the top of my choice. But I have 3 unfinished hulls there, that's enough for me for now  ROTF

The process I will probably use has, from what I've seen has been used on a large number of high end scratch builds with zero issues like that that I am aware of. I guess one of the benefits of the poly.
Being able to treat areas that will become inaccessible and likely ending up with more than a single coat seem to blend everything well ion any test pieces I've tried given a single coat is fairly subtle.
Even spot repairs seem doable with varying applications and required feathering.
All this said, make no mistake, my primary effort will be largely on interior decks/structures that will be hidden and not painted, frames, planking, will likely all be done in one shot.....number of coats to be determined.

Russ, given your comment in regard to finishes, do you have a suggestion ?
Well folks, while not starting any finish work yet, i wanted to circle back after research and testing and I will be finishing this with tried and tested yellow bees wax dissolved in distilled turpentine.
The deciding factor was circling back to Ed Tosti’s great treatise on his Naiad where he explains his using this for many years.
It’s easy, leaving a warm finish that can be buffed to a nice satin result.

When you mention SPACERS for the main hull what size are you using
The Brandford had custome made ones about 2" ling or are you using squre stuff slide in
Be usful to know
Thanks

Well, I've glued frames 1, 2 and 3 onto the keel now. I had to stop there because I needed to make some repairs to frame #4....
Maybe it's a good time to do a little more work on the hawse framing. :)
I didn't want to take a picture of this stage because it looks like a mess with lose frames laying all over the building jig.
thats a get out bet its looking good really
think ive just managed to order a couple of pear sheets 2.4mm and 3mm hopefully ok
Wondering if i Should add some strip wood to go in between the FRames Are you using small square or Filling

I'm just using a small piece of square stock. I picked up a few pieces of 1x1 and 2x2.

Using spare stock, all you need to do is slip an appropriate piece between frames down to the jig lugs that desperate them. find one that’s snug....cut it to size a there's your spacer.
In truth there's a bit of variance but, this way you're good, I glued them long, glued up then cut them flush with frames with Dozuki saw.

Well Jeff I finally made over to your very fine Enterprize build. I guess my moniker should be 'Johnny's Late Again' Ha! POF hulls although difficult, at least for me, are very rewarding when finished. Keep up the great work and if you pull more muscles just go outside for a relaxing afternoon sauna, you know heat humidity and all that. :p

Thanks for stopping by and also the compliment ! I hope I don't have any more muscle tears like that one ! Still having a little trouble with it.

Continuing to glue frames to the keel. Unfortunately, I had to stop there because another frame that I had to repair and then broke it again so I have to repair it again.... LOL Anyway, here is a picture with the glued in frames. :)

If you look closely in the upper right of the picture, you can see a clamp that is being used to fix (again) the broken frame. LOL

Looks pretty smooth on the inside, hopefully that translates to a minimum of sanding.

Looking good, excellent work…..maybe a suggestion (request) to appease my ocd….can you please redo the push pins so that they are in a colour coordinated pattern..haha

Like I continue to tell folks… You can NEVER have enough clamps
