Hi Herman, Sorry to be late to offer my condolences on the loss of your Mother. I'm just getting caught up on your beautiful ship. All of your work is just top-notch! The most difficult, the carvings, are executed wonderfully and make me excited to see more.

You've seemed to have gained back your momentum.
Hi Ken. Many thanks for your condolences and compliments.
My father in law also passed away recently leaving behind my demented mother in law. Luckily we have found a good nursing home a short half hour drive from our home, 2 hours less than where they used to live. But for the time being we still have a lot to arrange especially with their belongings so that will take away some of the momentum for the coming months.

As a prelude to more difficult carving I replaced the ornament, which is used as inlay in the bow, because I found the earlier version too massive. And now was the right moment to correct that, before all the bow parts are joined together.
First of all a piece of wood was made to fit the housing; then the shape to be cut out was marked, holes drilled and the carving was made. I used both gouges, files, drills and my new nail drill.

Excellent neat work, I really like it.

Over the last week I have made the decorated ventilation ports.

First cut out the contours, then drilled a hole and filed it to the correct shape. The ports themselves are made up of 2 slats. The hinges filed out of a piece copper wire and blackened.

They look huge, but are rather small. I have placed them on the model to give an impression of the actual size.

Piękne rzeźbisz Hermanie . Model wygląda bardzo pięknie. Pozdrawiam Mirek
Dziękuję Mirek.
Było to artystyczne preludium do wyrzeźbienia figury dziobowej. To jest o krok trudniejszy.

Thank you Mirek.
This was an artistic approach before sculpting the figurehead. That is a step more difficult.

Dziękuję Mirek.
Byłoby artystyczne preludium do wyrzeźbienia figury dziobowej. To jest o krok podstawowy.

Dziękuję Mirek.
To było podejście artystyczne przed wyrzeźbieniem figury dziobowej. To jest krok trudniejszy.

Small update .. the pulleys as integrated in the hull have been made and installed.
I first milled 4 slots into a piece of wood, then reduced the wood to 4 pieces of the appropriate measurements to fit into the hull. A hole was drilled into the wood to fit the 'pulley' in it. I don't have a lathe so I just made the pulleys themselves from a brass tube and didn't profile them. After having carefully made holes in the hull installed them in the ship. They are fine and give a good idea of how it must have looked in my opinion.
