french 64-gunner LE FLEURON in scale 1:48 by Joachim

Very good work on the head - tricky work and you are on a good way
I guess the head rails are not permanently fixed, or?
especially the lowerhead rail we can see a small gap to the head timber
The bow will get a beautiful part of our model - fitting well to the rest of it Thumbsup

Hello Uwe, thank you. I was one week on holiday in Italy between Nizza and Genua to see the sea
I just came back and checked the little gap. The head reals are not fixed at time and with glue this gap will be minimised

I continue the work at the bow. This part is really difficult. I sanded the supports for the outer struts. Partly I glued some pieces of wood in gaps and then I sanded the pieces. Then I created the crossbeams and milled 1.5 mm incisions for the small longitudinal beams with the milling machine. The last longitudinal beams are still missing at the edges. And then everything will be decorated with boxwood from the outside. That will also be a lot of work

Pozdrawiam Mirek

Hello
I wonder what shellac you use, whether you bought it ready-made or you made it yourself, whether it is orange with some addition, e.g. ruby. I really like this color on my La bella. Please reply when you find a moment. Regards Mirek

I use Schellack ready made in the colours reddish, orange and bleached. For the floors I use the bleached. Outside I use the reddish for the planks under the waterline. Above the waterline I use the orange one. The Shellack is from dictum.com

The bow and the decorations are progressing. The elongated ledges have elongated indentations. I use the milling machine for this. As a stop for the bar I clamp a round mandrel, old drill in the vice. I position the milling/drilling head 1.5 mm to the left of the mandrel, for example, so that it can mill in the center of the strip. With a stop (thicker strip) I press the strip to be milled against the mandrel and mill the first hole, for example 0.4 mm deep. Then, while the milling machine is running, I push the strip forward. While doing so, continue to press the strip against the mandrel with the stop. As a result, the milled indentation in the bar remains very even. Take care for your fingers.

simple idea, but very good way for such a milling work
The problem often is only to get such simple ideas - many thanks for sharing

Please post some photos of your Wappen Von Hamburg - I have one thats 3/4 done with the hull and laying in the wings. Thanks so much - beautiful work on Le Fleuron ! Also thanks for the post re Shellac - will probably use it on my next build after Bismarck.

Ok, I will do

The Galion is complete. I am currently carving two fish heads as decorations. The difficulty is also to adapt the figure to the hull and to the prow of the ship. The first step is to hollow out (carve, saw, mill) a block of wood from the inside so that it fits. I've been busy with this for almost two and a half days. Then the actual figure can only be carved on the outside. another 3 half days of fun (it's not work, it's fun)
