Geobukseon Known as Turtle ship (a Korean battleship) [COMPLETED BUILD]

Share the hobby with you, have a 1974 RR Silver Shadow but not enough time to drive a lot with her.

Nice !!!.

I just drive them on weekends and if I have time. I try to find excuses to go to places, like the supermarket for the weekly shopping, and without rush. Then I take one of the antique cars.

At least, every other weekend I try to drive them, like 10-20 miles, to keep the mechanics on good shape. That is enought.

Oh boy... the best is to see the face of kids and adults when they shake their hands and I use the Ford A, AOOG horn ..... it sounds very strong. Kids faces are always fascinating.

Cheers

The Mercury is also a beauty Daniel. These pictures and Maarten mentioning the RR, makes me think of what once was ... Today, alas ...

Sorry to hijack your log, Daniel. But, there is a distinct resemblance between the speed of my mode of transport and the Turtle Ship.

Here is where I stand now. Almost back to where I was when I started all the changes.

Still more to come on this deck

Now a few closeups to enjoy the details I have added so far. I tested a cannon and fits perfectly between oars, but it is not pictured because it needs yet a lot of work.

I hope these pictures helps future modelers on their built of this kit.

Dear Daniel. The progress you have made as a builder is immense. To me this is a truly fascinating build of a very rare and most unique subject. I even read up on the whole history of the Turtle ship. It may have started off as an "easier" build than the Statenjacht, but with all the changes that you are ringing, you are elevating its build status. to something that you can be just as proud of.

Thank you Heinrich !!!

And you are correct. I complicated it. But I couldn't stand the way the kit was developed. It was too far away of the museum replicate and many things didn't make sense. Like the oars position. But that is also linked with the next deck. You will see.

Stay tuned and check the log from time to time.

BTW .... very funny your sneakers comment. :)

HI.
I built this ship awhile ago. I had seen it in Korea and had to have the model. It's characteristics are so different from European styles that an example belongs in every collection....well, at least mine and yours. Based upon a book I found I added a second gun deck. It was referred to as Geobukeson II. I wasn't surprised at the variation because many (hundreds?) of these ships were build and improved.

I found that the supplied planking was sufficient to the job and afforded proper scaling.
Enjoy

Thank you for stopping on the log. And thank you for posting your picture.

As you mentioned I also have the feeling that many variations of the same ship were built. All probably shared the covered deck, like a turtle.

There is one example, seen in the below video, that has a second gun deck.

The issue with this kit is that the designer created a second gun deck when, on this "model" of Turtle ship didn't exist. The deck will be modified to resemble the model that is at the museum. This model was designed, the exterior, as the museum replicate. But for some reason, probably to make the assembling easier, the deck of the kit is incorrect.

Museum replicate video where it can clearly be seen there is no upper gun deck.

Also on this other replicate no upper gun deck

I am targeting to build a second deck like on this model.

Why you don't open a log and post your finished Turtle ship pictures with details of your modifications. That will be great !!!

Best !!!

Moving on, i decided to use my few free hours this weekend to start the 2nd deck I was talking about.

This is what the kit said it has to be done:

20210614_081244.jpg

And this is what I did.

I cut the side of the deck, to reflect how it is on the 1:1 replicates I posted the videos and pictures before. Besides, that deck do not have cannon (as pictured on the kit inages) because the roof of this model do not have cannon holes. Why the developer did this wrong design ??? . I am not looking for an answer to that question.

I also finished the deck planking.

That's all for now....

Added a few details not included with the kit.

See this museum Turtle picture

All the arrows point the added details.

I added Iron reinforcements and change the anchor guide.

Before... (after adding the irons parts)

After... when I changed the anchor rope guide
