HIGH HOPES, WILD MEN AND THE DEVIL’S JAW - Willem Barentsz Kolderstok 1:50

Good to see you have some time to progress on your build Heinrich.

I have also started looking at a possible future build and have – very tentatively – made a decision based on a multitude of "ifs", "buts" and "maybe's". Luckily it is a project which still needs to be developed by the kit manufacturer, so I have plenty of time to see how things pan out. :)

And the tease and speculation begins ROTF.

Great plans Heinrich, and can you lift a little tip of the vale about your new build??
Your stanchions are going excellent, and if that plank won't hold its curvature, you can also borrough your admirals iron, and use that, first a bit of soaking, then heating and regularly with a brush applying more water, until the curvature is there :) :)

No tease or speculation will help, Roger as I know far too little at this point - just that it is a proposed model (I have seen a 3D rendering) that still has to be developed. The start date of development is not even known yet. From my experience with YuanQing and Kolderstok, a development cycle can take up to two years so I'm not holding my breath. The only reason I mentioned it, is to assure all friends that I am looking at the future.

Thank you, my friend and thank you for the tip of the iron. Let's see what happens tomorrow night with that plank. If all goes well, I hope to finish gluing the Port side stanchions tonight, then it's the turn of the other side. As to the possible future build, it's far too early to lift any veil. I first need to see how the development goes.

The more difficult the journey, the more rewarding it is once completed. Way to persevere my friend! She looks great! Can't wait to see you continue!
Thank you very much for the kind words, my friend. I really feel good that I could get something done tonight. It may not be much, but these days it is great just to be able to do something! :)

Dear Friends

The galleon has been completed in full and with it, it brings to a close a week I would rather forget (nothing to do with shipbuilding).

Why the pictures turned out so dark, I have no idea.
Looks really beautiful! So that's it? No more to accomplish? So...what is your next build? I, for one, am looking forward to your builds and progress. I learn a lot from you!

Hi Phil. Thank you kindly for the very kind words - I am really glad if you could get something useful from the log. I would guess that taking into account the rigging that still needs to be done, I am probably halfway with this build at this point - so there is still a huge amount of work to be done. It's just that my time for building is almost none-existent at this point, so progress is in baby steps.

Dear Friends

As soon as I got home tonight (with a full weekend ahead of me), I dived boots and all into the WB. The stanchions on the Port Side have been finished and those on the starboard side placed.

Now it's just a case of waiting until tomorrow morning to saw off the excess and sand it level with the bulwarks. Then I can close up the stern and place the top railings aft.

Work continues merrily in a busy shipyard today. The items being tended to include: the top railings of the stern bulwarks, closing up the stern and starting to place the top railings between the canopies. All is going well so far and there is nothing untoward to report. If all goes well, the stern will be completed tonight and hopefully I can post some pics tomorrow.

At the same time, we had a rather hectic practice session with the No 2 paddler in the club this morning in rainy and foggy weather. We would be rowing for all we were worth, and he would simply come flying by.

Wow, just look at the skill sets you are working on. Model ship building and now Kayak paddling. What’s next, Skydiving, Motocross, maybe a Marathon or two?
Hi Jan. Those other activities you mentioned - categorically - NO. The kayaking is my weekly exercise and break-away and modeling keeps me sane indoors. By the way Jan - how do you like this?

Either static display or RC. Nope, this is not the new model. :)

Great picture of you all. Looking through the door on your ship, I like the light pattern coming through the grated decking.
Thank you, Daniel. I must say, I enjoy the change of scenery that the kayaking brings.

Just for you, my friend: the light coming through the grated roof is particularly noticeable at the front canopy.

Dear Friends. The bulwark railing has been completed.

I am particularly pleased with this fit - I don't think I could have gotten it any better.

The stern has been closed, the frame around the door completed, the door/window installed, and the Amsterdam Coat of Arms installed.

When the stain has dried completely, I will give the whole stern a once-over with 2000-grit sandpaper and apply the second coat.

As you can see the starboard railing between the two canopies have also been placed. Tomorrow it is the turn of the Port Side.

Wow, I love it. I almost bought the W. Disney Nautilus RC version last summer. Disney Nautilus BUT got interested in the San Bartolome. I've done several static U-boats and have given them all away. There is only so much room in the "Man Cave".:D

Watching @dockattner Paul and @GrantTyler Grant's builds of the small boats, have made me realize that this is a still job I have to do. So without further ado, I started this.

The laser sheet which contains the parts for two lifeboats. The larger of the two is the "chaloup" or sloop, whilst the smaller one is simply referred to as "boot" (boat). I will also construct a third boat (another chaloup) which is of different configuration to the one shown above. Once completed, i will make a call as to which one I prefer.

This picture shows the keel and bulkheads glued together. I chose to start with the most difficult one (the smaller boat) as this is the one which will definitely find a place on the ship. As you can see the first plank has been glued only at the bow, to ensure a perfect fit. Once the glue has dried thoroughly, the rest of the plank will be glued. You will notice there is a complete absence of clamps as I have found in the past that they distort the hull.
