HIGH HOPES, WILD MEN AND THE DEVIL’S JAW - Willem Barentsz Kolderstok 1:50

Aha ….. a co-production! Give her my compliment, Heinrich. And you deserve them to with the bowsprit.
Regards, Peter
Thank you, Peter. When it comes to ropes and small holes, the admiral is of great help - I just do not have the patience for that. I am always in awe when I see what you guys get up to when it comes to the rigging - your Bluenose being the perfect example. :)

Hi Heinrich,
Pity about the weather.
Great work from you and your admrial.

Cheers,
Stephen.
Thank you, Stephen. I suppose with winter in full swing, I have to accept that - even though we get most of our rain in summer, a temperature hovering around the zero mark, is not conducive to outdoor activities.

Much the same here Heinrich, we are in the doldrums at the moment. Not cold enough nor warm enough as we change over to our long winters. But there’s lots of enjoyable days ahead at the workbench :).
Very true Roger. It's still early in the morning here (07H00), but ditto for today as far as the weather goes. Now I just need to find my mojo again.

Hello Dear Friends

Today the weather was/is miserable so there was no rowing. The whole day was thus devoted to the WB - the first time in a long while that this has happened. The modus operandum was Operation Bowsprit - a 6mm dowel which was tapered at the base to 5.5mm and then tapered to the front to 4mm.

The three clamps which hold the woolding in the correct position, were made.

The euphroe at the end of the bowsprit. This time it is smaller and less obtrusive than on WB.

Bowsprit dry-fitted to the hull. It needs to come out tonight still for a second coat of CLOU and will then be glued permanently into position. With the admiral here, I aim to do the woolding tomorrow.

And speaking of the admiral ... her deadline assembly-line is doing just fine.

Good morning Heinrich. Sometimes those gloomy raining days are like : “Yes it’s shipyard time:D”. The clamps and euphroe on the bowsprit are excellent. Once again Heinrich you have it made with the Admiral assistance.;).Cheers Grant

The Admiral is indispensable Grant - in my life and modelbuilding! :) I do not have the patience to fiddle with little strands of rope and small holes. Give me wood and I will build any ship but rigging .... Sick Next ship - Admiralty-style!

Agree, agree and agree. I wouldn’t know what to do without Arlene, rigging can be fiddly and repetitive, and playing with little pieces of wood certainly is way more fun than little strands of rope.

Non the less- that wonderful WB is demanding Rigging ;). Cheers Grant

Yes - she does deserve her rigging - and she will get it! Thumbsup

And with Admiral Anna in charge, it does not take long.

Done!

The rope is what it is. I am most certainly not going to import rope for this purpose. In real life, that little bit of fluff is not noticeable.

Another box is ticked.

The top railing on the little boat as well as the oar locks have been placed. The bigger chaloup has also received its top railing and is awaiting oar locks. The belaying rack has been placed in the bow and the foremast and bowsprit have been dry fitted. All is good, but my motivation at this stage is really low. Now that I have finished the construction of the ship and know what it looks like compared to the earlier version, it's almost that now I know what I wanted to know.
I really love the wood tone on this ship! You mentioned using sandpaper on the stain, I prefer 0000 steel wool to sand between coats or to lighten a stain and give the wood a slightly worn character. Just a thought. Then you can clear coat that with a satin to protect it. As always, many variables in the approach. ;)
