HIGH HOPES, WILD MEN AND THE DEVIL’S JAW - Willem Barentsz Kolderstok 1:50

Thank you very much for the kind words, Uwe. The Willem Barentsz is not yet finished - there are still some things to finish on the hull and obviously the rigging that needs to be done. The next build will be a POF model - I can't let you guys alone have all the fun! ROTF
Sorry to misinterprete - shall I change the title and delete the [COMPLETED BUILD]?

Hello Heinrich,

An amazing journey of building this ship and such a fine job - I am sure you are proud of your accomplishments. I want to show this in the gallery, however, do you have any more pics showing different views of her?

Thanks

Donald
Hello Donnie. I think there is some misunderstanding here! ROTF The ship is not yet finished. It still needs some finishing work on the hull and then the rigging that needs to be done.

My bad Heinrich - my apologies - I got caught up somehow in the people's comments on your accomplishments and I sadly assumed. I look forward to its completion.
Absolutely no problem, Donnie! :)

The top railing on the little boat as well as the oar locks have been placed. The bigger chaloup has also received its top railing and is awaiting oar locks. The belaying rack has been placed in the bow and the foremast and bowsprit have been dry fitted. All is good, but my motivation at this stage is really low. Now that I have finished the construction of the ship and know what it looks like compared to the earlier version, it's almost that now I know what I wanted to know.
Hi Heinrich,

Your small boats are looking quite at home, great work.

Cheers,
Stephen.

Heinrich a beauty, your picture is from a great angle, it shows that extravagant shape.
Thank you very much, Tobias. The shape of the ship was one of the main reasons why I wanted to build her. To me, she is a very pretty little ship!

Thank you very much my friend. I still have to decide whether I am going to show both on the ship or only the smaller one. The deck space is very cramped and taking into account that I still have to install three belaying racks on the main deck, things are going to get mighty cramped. Ab has aid from the beginning that only the boot was stored aboard while the chaloup was towed - it looks as if he is probably right.

Hi Heinrich,
Funny I was thinking there wasn't much room on deck for the sailors to do their thing, having the chaloup towed astern makes sense, and they can always put the drunken sailor in the chaloup to sober up.

Cheers,
Stephen.

Hi Stephen. At this point I agree fully. Thinking of the belaying racks and subsequent rigging, it really appears well-nigh impossible for both lifeboats to have been stored on deck.

Hello Heinrich, from my perspective you still have a major challenge ahead. While the rigging may not be giving you the same type of challenge as the hull, it still has to complement the outstanding beauty and character you have built into her thus far. For me anyways that would be a significant challenge.

This is again a stunning picture that you showed us Heinrich, and for the motivation?? I would say, a couple of days just looking at your Willem Barentsz, a few Nescafe's and then thinking out a plan to start with completing de masts and the rigging, and it will come back very soon to you, my friend.
And as @Daniel20 said it will be a challenge, and it would also be a challenge to me as wel

Dear Daniel. You are absolutely right - there is still a huge task ahead as far as the rigging goes. And the rigging question is a moot point. Yes, I can do some of the rigging off the ship, but if the masts go in to be permanently mounted, chances of the little ship leaving China are slim. And with me not knowing where I will be in a year's time, the plot thickens. However, with all that being said and done, she will be completed before I start anything else.

Thank you, my friend. You must have read my mind - because that is precisely what I am doing. The Admiral asked me what I want for Christmas (meaning a new model to build) so I have been looking at that as well. But there again, my future plans will play a major role as I cannot really start anything major now. Therefore, I am not in a hurry to finish the little ship.

Good morning Heinrich. She is beautiful and ready for those masts, ropes and sails. Looking forward to this next step which I am sure you will research, give us an indepth working Historical analysis and of course pull it off. Cheers Grant

Thank you, Grant. Luckily there is absolutely no research required here. Between Ab Hoving (for the historical accuracy) and @pietsan Piet for the execution of the rigging everything about it is beautifully detailed and complete.

Hello Dear Friends

Today the weather was/is miserable so there was no rowing. The whole day was thus devoted to the WB - the first time in a long while that this has happened. The modus operandum was Operation Bowsprit - a 6mm dowel which was tapered at the base to 5.5mm and then tapered to the front to 4mm.

The three clamps which hold the woolding in the correct position, were made.

微信图片_20221203200505.jpg
The euphroe at the end of the bowsprit. This time it is smaller and less obtrusive than on WB.

Bowsprit dry-fitted to the hull. It needs to come out tonight still for a second coat of CLOU and will then be glued permanently into position. With the admiral here, I aim to do the woolding tomorrow.

And speaking of the admiral ... her deadline assembly-line is doing just fine.
