HIGH HOPES, WILD MEN AND THE DEVIL’S JAW - Willem Barentsz Kolderstok 1:50

Hmmm... maybe I will have to reconsider...
When it’s in your mind …… end of story, Heinrich. And I see: You started to install!
And I am convinced that the stay was there. There used to be not many ‘unstayed’ mast on those old ships.
Coincidentally: on some old photos you also see back stays on the original BN from the front top mast, which is not visible later.
That makes these kinds of considerations so much fun and it gives your model a personal touch.
Looking forward to the fitting of that stay. It’s not in the manual, so more personal touch! And the ratlines ……..:)
Regards, Peter

@Peter Voogt Hi Peter. You are a keen observer to see that I have already started with the mizzen stay. :) To be honest though, Hans does have the stay on the @Kolderstok plans and in the instruction manual (see below).

Not including the stay originally was entirely of my own doing based on Hoving's statement that the mizzen was too short and the sail too small to require a separate stay. I should never have fiddled with the Kolderstok plans.

With regards to the original (read old) pictures of Bluenose - it just shows again that the originals were the most accurate and the best bet to follow.

The ratlines? No rush and like Dean said: "One clove-hitch at a time." Luckily, I can share with the Admiral!

Placing a stay makes absolute sense to my opinion. If you uprise a flagpole and have to support it with lines to keep it upright you don’t use lines at only one side (for a mast: the shrouds), but you have to use at least three lines in a triangle position to keep the pole standing.
Line one for the mast are the shrouds at port, line two for the mast are the shrouds at starboard, et voila, line three for the mast is the stay.

Hans

Thank you, Hans. It will be done exactly like that! Thumbsup

As already mentioned bij Peter Voogt, and Hans Kolderstok, you have had the first actions on the mizenstay, but also on the ratlines as i have seen a white paper behind the shrouds.
Have fun with them my friend, and about WB nr. 3 ?? i was just kidding you my friend ( and i got help ) :):)

You are correct, my friend. I have the mouse for the mizzen stay and the section that goes around the main mast has also been done and seized. And you are also right about the ratlines - but that's for the weekend. No problem about the third build - as you see, I am considering it! :)
