Thank you, Johan. There are still a few finishing touches that are required, but I am satisfied with the basic work done.
 
Oh boy! That oak/ walnut contrast is just outstanding Heinrich. I love the innovation with the drawer! I,m really glad to hear that partial gluing at a time of the planks really works. I have battled with that on two ships now and always had a difficult time reaching the narrow space where the gluing left off and had to move further down to start gluing again.

Hi Johan. All of those things you mentioned came squarely into play, plus the fact that the oak does NOT want to remain bent. Compared to the oak, the walnut was a breeze in the park. BUT ... the looks, the looks! I also think it looks really good - now it's up to me to keep my concentration, remain focused and exercise patience.

I am glad that you like the oak/walnut combination, Daniel. As you know, that was the plan from the beginning. :D I know exactly the problem you are referring to getting the glue in those tight places - all you do, is dilute it very slightly with water, apply it as deeply into the crevice as you can get it, and give it an almighty blow! The glue will spread and cover the whole area.

Super PHATIC ALIPHATIC Glue Fast Drying, Bonds Wood, Foam Paper ETC Brand: Deluxe Materials​

If you have never tried this adhesive before I would recommend it. It seems to have a very low surface tension and therefore sucks itself into realty tight places. Just touch it to the side of a plank and it will suck under it. Great work btw.. Fibrous wood is a pain in the you know what. Cheers JJ.

Thank you very much for that tip, Jack. I have heard so much about it but have never tried it. The big challenge is, of course, to find it - or equivalent - in China. What brand do you use or are they all the same?

Hi Heinrich, Yea the one I use is the super thin one from a company called Deluxe Materials. It has a very low viscosity and as I said get right into the tight corners. Its not a substitute for pva but more of a compliment. It grips slower than a super glue, but faster than pva. It dries clear with a slight gloss and is water cleanable. I would also use it when rigging to stop knots slipping as it doesn't go bubbly white like super glue can sometimes. JJ.

By the way, Jan - I have laid down the last of the 6mm strips on the Port Side last night and I thought I would share this tip with you. Instead of tapering the planks to 4mm, I tapered them to 3mm. That made the world of difference! At the bow, I could now fit all three planks onto the filler block and the sheer of the hull is much, much straighter. Today I have to repeat that exercise on the starboard side.

Thank you for the very kind words, Mark. I am extremely pleased. The oak is a real challenge to work with, but it creates almost seamless lines without sanding and then sands to a beautifully smooth finish.

That is good to know. I finished both the port and starboard side "planking of the Wales" this afternoon. So I will be starting the 6mm planks above the Wales tomorrow.

Great Jan! With the walnut, the only challenge that you will have is the vertical bending. And remember to taper to 3mm ROTF
