HMAV BOUNTY - A “face lift “

Great work on your rebuild Bounty Grant, stunning to see what you can make out of a sheet of veneer
Good morning Peter. Thank you kindly. I amazed myself ROTF . It has almost been more fun working out how to make the wood than building the ship…..
And how about the ropes, deadeyes, blocks and whatnot for the standing and running rigging?
Good morning Johan. The dead eyes are easy- I just 3D designed and printed them. As these will be black I just paint them.

The blocks and ropes I have the kit version from the Victory and Xebec. They are typical kit ropes and blocks. Hmmmm??

I also have some supplies of the “good stuff” from Dry dock Models however I’m not sure the scale will work on my Bounty. Definitely short supply tho.

Last resort will be to eat humble pie and concede and buy some more of the good stuff:rolleyes:
Cheers Grant

Put them in a tumbler and you will be surprised

Hello Grant, Fantastic job you are doing on your rebuild of your Bounty. I built her many years ago and also added a lot of detail that did not come in the kit. Bounty was a special ship to me and my Admiral Bernadette who sewed up most of the sails. I do like the way you are are rebuilding her at almost Zero dollars, I sure spent a lot more. We seen her many times in and around Halifax Nova Scotia. Thanks for sharing your great adventure.
Regards Lawrence

If you want to try to use the blocks in the photo, maybe try tumbling them in a rock polisher/sander type device. I use a version that a US supplier used to offer but you can probably make a good one at home. I use an electric hand held drill. Hold the jar with the blocks inside in one hand and the drill in the other and spin away. It will take off the sharp edges and improve the shape of the blocks. The photos below are of the block sander I bought some years ago. I use 400 grit or finer and it will last a long time.

Thank you Allan. I will give this a bash and see if I can improve those kit blocks. I will attempt to make a homemade tumbler - doesn’t look too difficult……ha every time I say that it turns out more of a challenge ;). Much appreciated. Cheers Grant
