True story
Good morning Mark. Thank you. It has been quite the challenge trying to do this at a zero spend however the most fun I have had building a model. The outcome is not the best but way better than I expected when I started. It’s rather satisfying finding scraps of wood and laminating say a 2x4 strake together - and it works ok. The only disappointment is it does not hold its edges when cutting or shaping nor keeps a perfect circle when drilling. So the details fail a tad. Anyway fun. Cheers GrantHa! Struggle time
. Still maintaining a zero cost however starting to feel the pain
Attempted to make a capstan :
Cleaned up the old anchor cable guides and used the old brass porthole windows, blackened for the cable holes :
Cleaned up some of the swivel guns (takes a long time to get the paint, varnish and CA glue off) re shaped the handle and added some trunnions. These are still WIP.
Nothing is glue in yet.
Hmmm- the quest continues.

. This is how I have managed so far :
1. I use the previous kit part, cover with veneer (which I have an endless free supply courtesy of a buddy who owns a kitchen business). I have to sand the veneer down to almost nothing or I increase the scale of each part by a mm. Here I’m making a channel.
2. I make wood by laminating the veneer and then cut to size. Most of the ship is built from this.
3. For solid wood I have used the solid walnut left from my Xebec - again cut to size.
4. I have a few bits from the Victory left.
Definitely not the best and I do struggle getting detail and sharp edges/notches etc from the laminates. Us South Africans are a stubborn bunch and “n Boer maak n plan” is part of life

Good morning. With my injury my shipyard time is increased however I am jumping around like ricochet rabbit on steroids. I can’t bring myself to finish any one thing. Full throttle……see what happens when I don’t get my adrenaline fix .
Channel- deadeyes- strops and chain plate:
I designed and 3D printed the deadeyes as I don’t have any 6mm dead eyes in my stock. I used the old chain plates however these are sooooo inaccurate. They look good tho. I am not sure these will remain so. May decide to make more accurate ones with some wire.
Started making the sheaves for the main yard sheets. Got bored :
So rigged my steering and tiller.
I also printed 30 belay pins. These don’t look as good as the brass blackened pins but I am still in the zero spend category. They are resin printed and brittle so I will have to careful when rigging. Not glue in.
I need to STOP and fettle!!! Help
