HMAV BOUNTY - A “face lift “

Beautiful rigging work Grant. This is where microsurgery skills, lean fingers and good eyes are needed...
I guess you are working on Bounty's rigging while you wait for extra sheets on your Enterprize. ?
BTW, do you have different work areas for different stages of your builds ? Send us a picture of your shop.
I find it always helps to have projects at different stages to keep interest.

Hi Alex. This is a true story. I will send you a pic of my shipyard when I get home. It is a bit of a mess and no allocated space per model - I just play in a disorganised manner. Cheers Grant

Me too, as you can see on my dedicated bench for Flying Cloud. I have seven worktables and benches (left over from my furniture days) all littered with crap!

Good morning
Main stay and foremast shrouds.

The U blocks I had to make from scratch…..not the best I have seenROTF. I have run out of left over kit natural rope so she is now getting some of the good stuff I have in my stock. It makes a big difference.

And burning off the fuzz….

A nice stay with a nice scratch build block, Grant. And you are a brave man with the lighter .....
Regards, Peter

Good morning Grant, I went back to your first post (initial page) this morning and man what a remarkable difference you have made from then till now. The Bounty “face lift” is a great achievement.

You have guts using that giant blow torch at such close range for the fuzz. Visions of Grant’s Fireship - yikes :D.

Thanks Peter. The fireworks look worse than they actually are. I flick the lighter so there is not a consistent flame. It really works very well if you are using cheap rope.

Good Afternoon Roger. Thank you for the compliment. I am very happy with the restoration considering the challenge associated with it. As for the blow torch ROTF It is more “bark than bite”…luckily.

Those U-blocks are really interesting, unique haven't seen any quite like that before. You have an awesome restoration going on!
Thank you Daniel. The British used the U blocks on some of the ships of the line- the Victory had this configuration. The Bounty and smaller ships used 2 “heart blocks” like so : 198690A6-A10D-4E66-A7BA-F3B78C4A1452.jpeg
I did not have enough heart blocks so went for the Victory method on my restoration. Cheers Grant

Burning off the fuzz in situ!?!?!!?!? COOL!
It could end like the real thing. We wait for it.
OH BOY, the fire department would just be leaving after having saved the basement if I tried that fuzz burning trick.

Jan
Good afternoon Gentlemen. The picture makes it look worse than it is. I flick the flame over and over onto the fuzz. It really works well with the cheap fuzzy thread. I have only had one accident and burned a rope off. It was in the early days when I was still learning how to play with fireROTF. Cheers Grant

You are playing with a great re-build Grant , a big WOW is in place, and i take of my cap for you.
Good evening Peter. Thank you very much indeed. Your encouragement is much appreciated. Cheers Grant

PS. apologies for the late reply Peter, this message has been sitting in my "draft" for a while as I did not "post reply".

Good morning gentlemen. My neglected Bounty (she is being bullied by HMS Enterprise at the moment ROTF ) has had a little dabbling now and then.

Nothing finished as ricochet rabbit is rampant ROTF:
Continuing with the standing rigging.

How the crows feet work is being looked at . I will replace this rope with nice rope as this one has been properly abused.

And a few ratlines for fun:D

Apologies for the lack of sequence and plenty jumping around - it has been a “what do I feel like doing this morning “ approach.

As you can see there is still plenty of “flame throwing” at this left over rope to get that fuzz off.ROTF. it will come good.
Cheers Grant
