HMS Beagle 1/60

A strange thing is happening to me.
As I progress into the building of the HMS Beagle, I am growing fond of the boat as a whole.
My idea of a boat in water, as part of a drastic diorama, has become less appealing. Dioramas tend to steal the limelight, in this case, the boat.

I also want to see how I do in planking the whole hull, and not just to the waterline.

I am sorry if my change of plan has disappointed you.

So, I am still going to exercise some liberties with the build, such as lighting.

I saw an odd approach to adding a diorama to a standalone model. Logically, it does not make sense, but for some reason, it looks okay. What do you think?

Before I do any planking, I need to work out a few details about the interior wiring for lighting and how to alter or replace some of the kit pieces.

I want to have interior night lighting visible through the skylights, but there is a problem...

Peter,

Having spent too much time - trial and errors - with lightning (you were so kind with your comment in in my Sov. log) Please let me know, I would be more
than happy to offer any help - PS: I'm not an expert haha. But I may have a few helpful ideas.
I also lit my Santisima cross section and have some thoughts about wiring issues.

Regards,

Thank you very much.
I had a look at your cross-section build and the lamps. It is good to see a builder who uses their imagination in their build, to fulfil their own sense of what is right/better.

Personally, I like to do the same, but my quirky sense of humour, at times, overtakes what is right/better.

About lighting, I like the idea of nano/pico LEDs.
I plan to use a flickering circuit of old design, if I can find a leaky capacitor ;). Otherwise, there are programmable methods which I prefer not to get into. It seems like a lot of trouble to make a LED doubt its own luminosity :D; besides, a covered lamp does not flicker much.
I plan to have the circuitry accessible under the display case.

Thank you for your reply and offer to help (which you have already).

Apologies for all the “likes”- I had to play some catch up. A very interesting log Kraken and all. So far looking good. Nice! Cheers Grant
Hi @GrantTyler . No need to apologise; I appreciate your interest in the log.
However, I may not use the Kraken in this build, as I have developed an interest in seeing this ship with its hull out of water. Of course, my imagination is now running wild with the idea of the Beagle in drydock, getting copper-plated, with the Kraken coming to shore to devastate the whole setup., ROTF.

Good morning. I prefer the Drydock option but that’s just me. The Kraken caused some banter on SOS when Paul ( @dockattner ) build his mighty impressive Vasa and when ever it is mentioned I always think of thisROTF. Cheers Grant

Hello Maties. I need your help. I have a Question...

They are supposed to be the crew's hammocks set outside to dry/air out. The question I have is why are the hammock nettings solid an both sides? Kind of defeats the primary purpose. I can understand wanting the additional sideboard to help mitigate swamping that the Cherokee class brigs were famous for, but I question the depiction of solid wood on both sides. Just my two cents.

Sorry for the delay in completing the skylights. I have been too tired to do so.
My mates have been getting me back into cycling. The trouble is that I am 20 kgs overweight, and losing it seems to be an impossible task without burning off my fat reserves. The guys I ride with are 70+ y.o., and the better riders average 30 kph. It has taken me a few months of riding to be able to eventually stay with the faster guys. Last week I rode 5 out of seven days, my best performance since returning to the sport. I rode about 270 kms. I am now losing weight, but it will still take a long time to lose the excess.

I am feeling better today and looking forward to completing the skylights.

Led lights might be more realistic if on the yellow spectrum instead of white.
Thank you, @11320 Titanic, for your suggestion. What you say is true. So too is yellow. What is needed is a 'warm white' (white with a touch of yellow). Of which I have already ordered from AliExpress (micro LEDs). However, if these don't work out well for my needs, I can opt for a white LED, dimmed down, in a yellowish setting, which is why the colour is chosen for the skylight area.

I asked Google AI...

Light yellow, used it to light the passenger cars on my n scale rr.

Even though I completed the wooden panelling, it is still not finished. I've run into a few problems (as expected with model building).
The white 1mm polystyrene sheet is quite light-transparent. I will have to dim the light source even more.
The interior needs to be repainted white to see if that lessens the effect. I am after a warm light effect.

Below: I am not happy with the doors. I might add panels of the lighter timber.
I experimented with a section of the captain's skylight that is not seen when placed on the deck.
I included protective bars across the windows. I will try to do a better job of it with the rest of the windows.
When the interior light is too strong, you can see the interior light penetrating the upper panel.
