HMS Enterprise 1:160 scale Boxwood - Unicorn Models

She's looking more like a ship now with various bits done the last few days. Gangways, rails, some metalwork.

I wasn't happy with the steps, which have ended up offset :-), but decided to make up for it by making my own molded ones rather than the simple polygons provided. I'm still mulling over how to better connect the volute to the drift rail.

Started on a pump and will complete next time I mix up some epoxy..........

Fabulous Richard. Wow those are the tiniest pumps I have seen. Cheers Grant

The more photos you post, the more impressive both the kit and your model! The detail at this scale is truly impressive.
Kudos
Allan
Thank you Allan,
The kit is very well conceived, and the templates and jigs are excellent. I'll likely purchase the Stern as well, and am hoping a bow section is also in the works.

Hi Richard,

Really lovely work. I'm delighted to see your progress... It's a truly impressive kit... But it does have its pitfalls... :D Thumbsup
Thank you Gunther,
Yes, there are areas which only line up correctly after later additons, so you really need a complete understanding of all the instructions before starting. I have had to deal with various misalignments.

Pumps, stairs, knightheads and rails plus various bits completed.

Took a diversion today, with my new laser toy, and started on the scratchbuilt cannon carriages. Based on the Armstrong pattern, but still some refining of dimensions to do. Looks very promising and sits at a decent height on the deck. Yet to be made correct thickness and compared below with the Unicorn offerings.

Must straighten that pump up..................

Hi Richard,

The gun carriages are great. Thumbsup What are the dimensions and how long did you work on them until you got the right measurements? What about the axles and wheels? You still have to adjust them, don't you?

Really great work!!

Thanks,
I am working on the files for the axles, wheels etc at present. It has taken a few hour of experimenting. Dimension based largely on the picture that Allan posted and are adjusted to fit the model, so to speak. I hope to have a complete carriage by tomorrow ;)

Here's the prototype on 1mm boxwood. My wife Anne thinks it looks like a vintage robot toy with some suspicious additions:oops::oops:..................

Hi Richard,

That looks really great and I'm thrilled! :D I'd like to order 16 of them, please. Please pack the mounts and send them to my address...ROTF

Really well done! ThumbsupAs I see it, you've laser-cut them, right? Unfortunately, I don't have a laser that can do that. I'd have to make the mounts by hand... Phew... Will I be able to do that on such a scale? Would you mind telling me the dimensions of the entire mount? I hope I'm not being too cheeky?

Many thanks!

Günther

Hehe,

Current problem is lack of material, even for prototyping. I'll try the prototype today, but have very little material.
Overall dim is 8.4mm x 3.5mm, but that may change. Wheels are about 1.3mm with 0.5mm axles.1762413905189.png

Material is 1mm for everything at present, but all of this may change.

I am not confident at this point that it is going to be as easy.
