Unboxing Hms Enterprize 1774 1:48 - Modelship Dockyard

I think there is room in shipmodelbuilding for both the perfectionists and those who are satisfied with the completion of a kit that isn't warped. If one group dropped out, they would be sorely missed. The great thing about SHIPS OF SCALE is that it is a place where newbies can find ways to avoid making mistakes that would result in a warped model fit only for the trash. So, BRAVO ZULU to you all, the tyros who want to do better, and the Experts willing to give their precious time to help anyone struggling to get it right. A ruined model may very well send a beginner back to some silly waste of time instead of our elegant pastime.

That is what I thought, but hard to tell in the photo. I do not see any cypher either which would have been the George III cypher. With all the 3D printed parts being used in kits these days, the kit makers could offer appropriate pattern guns and save a lot of money at the same time. There is something to be said for brass guns but if they are blackened to replicate iron cannon, why bother? If the cannon were bronze, which would be appropriate for earlier cannon brass might be a better choice, but the majority of build logs are for ships with iron cannon.

An interesting and helpful website for cannon is: https://www.arc.id.au/Cannon.html
Please remember on a British Man o War they where called GUNS ie 28 Gun ship
I guess the Cannon was the barrrel

Looking forward to seeing more pics as well. With about 10 contemporary drawings and the original contract written in 1776 for her sister Aurora available for free, this has the potential of being one of the best builds available.
Thanks Zoly
Allan
Where are the drawings for Aurora please Be Interesting

Thanks Richard, point well taken :)
There is the contract for the sister ship Aurora that I transcribed some years ago. I don't recall if the original is at RMG or if it is held at the NA in Kew.

There are 10 drawings of the Enterprize and her class which includes Aurora. If you are looking only for Aurora, be careful which plans you use. The Enterprize drawings include her plans as a fighting ship as well as when later de-masted and anchored at the Tower of London. There she was a receiving ship for foreign ships, then used to hold impressed citizens that were then taken to assigned ships. The drawings can be found at the RMG Collections website in low resolution or can be purchased from them in high resolution. Some of them can be found in high resolution on the Wiki Commons site for RMG drawings on page 8 .

https://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/ NB: If you need a contract or such from them you need to make an appointment and go there to photograph the pages. As mentioned above, I do not recall if the original I have came from a visit to the NA or RMG but if you need the transcription, feel free to PM me with your email address and I will forward it to you.
