Hi Zoltan. Be careful when sanding the foam, easy does it, as it is much softer than the bulkheads it is easy to end with waves instead of a continuous curve, if you see what I mean.

Hello Greg,I wanted to try this foam idea for a long time ,very easy to cut but not too soft and easy to sand ,shall see the end result when the whole hull is done.
Only in Usa and Canada soccer and Australia .Lol Normally I call it football. Lol

There is nothing new under the sun, really. I used it in my Prince of Neufchâtel without ever having heard of it...

But it seems a logical solution, cheap and quick if you want to have a good base for the planking and stiffen the hull.

Hello all,a little more progress on the polyurethane foam project lol,very slow
She will definately never sink.
Do you file and sand those to shape? I use a hot foam cutter when I build and shape my scenery.
When all the fillers will be in I cut the rough edges and sand the hull into shape.
Hello all,so all the fillers are in except the bow and stern pieces ,they need extra care to shape them so I will do that later,also cut the rough edges.

Hello Greg,thanks for visiting my build log,I will use my Permagrit files and regular sandpaper,easy to send that poly foam.
When I'll be doing mine in balsa wood, I'll be using this tool.
It's like a rasp crossed with a planner.

The filler foam is much softer than the wooden frames, so it should be no problem to sand them down to the correct shape.....it is looking good

My experience tells me that I'd rather use balsa at the bow and stern.

If you use wood-glue it is off course an advantage of you use any soft wood for these parts, so you can use the same type of glue.
I would not know which glue to use for this kind of foam Zoltan is using
I have used foam safe CA glue.

The problem is not the glue, I used Pva to glue the foam to the ply and it works very well.
The problem is that foam is much softer than the ply from the bulkheads so it is easy to oversand the foam at the bow and the stem. Also being the areas where the planks are more curved, wood helps better keeping that curves than foam, besides it is easier to use pins or whatever method you use to keep the planks in place while the glue dries.

I will make them first out of foam and if not good for the purpose than I will get some balsa.
