HMS Royal Caroline kit ZHL 1/30

After cutting all the logs for my next project, which you can find here.

I finally had some time to make some progress on my RC.
Time for the PS main channel. Again a lot of repetitive work which I will spare you the steps of as I discussed this with the PS fwd channel.
The main channel fitted with its dead eyes.

Making the dead eye links from 1 mm brass wire.

For fitting these at the correct angle I use a rope from the top of the the mast.

Every link will be at a different angle. Especially those for the topmast stay.

After this only the mizzen mast channel on the PS side, then on to the SB side.

Beautiful work on Royal Caroline - very neat
I definitely second that. And yet I'm dissapointed. I have just zoomed greatly in on the ship's bell and considering the relatively large scale and all the tiny details Maarten makes to perfection I had expected to see a more detailed scale rope :p ROTF ROTF
I think a continous 4 strand Crown Sinnet, a proper eye splicing and some decoration knots, e.g. Triple Foot Rope Knot or a Turks Head would not have been inappropriate ROTF
In Danish it is called a 'fjert' I think in Dutch it called allemanseind

Actually I made it with a splice around the ring and a decorative knot on the end, maybe your screen resolution is just too limited 8-) .

Ps the allemanseind is the piece of rope hanging next to the crew privy. The end of this rope was open like a brush. As this end (eind) of the rope was used by everybody (alle mannen) it was called allemanseind. This is not the piece of rope you want to use on the bell :-) :-)

Haha, then it is certainly not the same at the Danish 'Stjert'. Anyway I'm even more impressed now . . . splicing a rope at that scale . . . wow Thumbsup
Psst, its fake splicing. Easy to do, untwist the rope. Then loop it back so you get an eye. Put some CA on the rope and twist the untwisted end around it. You will have a perfect looking splice at scale.

G'day Maarten
In all my years in this hobby, I have never thought of using a line of rope from the top of the mask to get the correct angle of the channel's pins.
Thanks for giving us this tip.
My grandfather told me years ago, 'if you learnt something that day, it wasn't a waisted day'. SmartSelect_20200815-100857_Messages.jpg
Thanks to you, this day isn't waisted for me!
Maartiffic job you are doing, mate.
Happymodeling

The last channel on the PS side is fitted with the mizzen mast channel.

Additionally some eyebolds with rings for fitting the fwd and main sail sheets.

Now the PS side is nearly finished but before I move on finishing the SB side i have to carve the knee of the outrigger.

Again this carving is consisting of two cnc carved parts glued together. The left one unfinished, the right one I carved a while ago.
20200817_163448.jpg
Time to carve the fwd part. The face is most difficult first setting up the rough outlines with a knive.

On Aliexpress I bought a set of micro carving chisels which are of fine quality for a low price.

After setting the rough lines it is fine tuning by cutting and scraping it to shape.

Fitting it on to the hull. Downside of the two sided cnc carvings is the color difference of the wood. However pictures are making this more visible then with the bare eye.
