HMS Royal William 1719 1:55 by OlegM

No, no, I bought them. Given the quantity it would took me too long and frustrating to make them. The same reason why I use them only twice each, once per end. I could sharpen them after each use and use till the length allows, but the time required for sharpening would be too much, I don't want to waste it. I'm already doing this procedure for 7 weeks and want to finish with it as soon as possible.

The material is birch and I need about 12000 of them for the hull, each used twice. They look now similar to pear, but after oil application there will be some contrast, like on my Richard (although she - or should I say he :) - is from cherry)

I also did some preparational works on the stern balсonies and quarter galleries.
First, we need to build the balсonies, which accordingly to the museum model are covered with parquetry. I hope the process is clear from the photos

Step by step assembly of the galleries. The quarter galleries are milled into solid blocks that I will cover with planks, windows and decorations. The similar approach was used on my Richard. Windows will be solid black, so I don't plan to detail anything inside. I decided that given my current abilities I'm ok with some simplifications

Haha Vic, you fully underestimate your excellent work. I still see your work passing by in a lot of pinterest posts. Your work is famous.

I'm possibly interested in finding a boxwood supplier for myself, who would cut and sand planks and plates according to my dimensions (when I say my dimensions I mean that I may order a plank 0.8x1.5 or 1.0x3.8). If there's someone here, you can DM me with what max length L you are able to provide (given the nature of this wood I know that this can be limited) and your price for some sample dimensions, say a plank 1x5xL and plate 1x40xL (or whatever max width is available). This will be kind of twice-a-year orders for my models
Thanks!

Hallo Oleg,
maybe you should also ask @bibigon if they are able to provide you an offer - if he is able to offer boxwood

another possibility (also fro the future to have boxwwod strips in stock) - there is one offer on ebay classifieds (Kleinanzeigen) who is selling more than 2 tsd 1 meter long strips) - but he is expecting also more than 1.000 Euro offers - diemnasions of strips see photo

Thanks Uwe, Bibigon is my main supplier and he is out of boxwood :( he offers to replace it with castello but I like the yellowish color of boxwood and castello looks to me too close to pear and not so nice yellow..

I finally finished with external planking and treenails. I treated the lower part with oil to prevent it from humidity distortions. Now the diary is over (I'm building the ship since last May) and I will continue to post in real time at the speed of actual progress
