HMS Victory Build #776 1:98 scale

Hello Dick, from the other side of the river in Washougal WA. Glad to find another ship wright from the Pacific NW!

Step 10: Haven’t done much as a lot of yard work required on these beautiful sunny days in Oregon. Few and far between.
Anyway added lower deck base and true to form Mantua didn’t have it right. So had to do a lot of rework. Why they didn’t have this in 2 halves for easier install I’ll never know. Drew lines for planking and joints on the base for future planking. The most difficult will be final sanding, sealing, and varnishing the planking on the deck. Also added 1st plank on ships hull both sides today. Hold down clips are from another modeler and his idea really works great. Simple and cheap yet effective. Dollar store.DAE01BB3-2865-44C0-B182-B0883DB653C1.jpegA01C0F8C-BC49-4B8E-B95F-35D850ACA651.jpeg

I am looking for a set of plans from Mantua of 1:98 scale of HMS Victory copyrighted in 1971. Does anyone have for sale. Can’t find on internet. They only have 1:78 scale plans from Mantua. Plans supplied with kit don’t help at all.
Here is sample of plans from my relative. (We had a falling out so no chance to buy from him).

Hello, Dickiiee44 here is the link directly to your post. Just copy and paste to your email. https://shipsofscale.com/sosforums/threads/hms-victory-build-776-1-98-scale.4682/#post-94823
I think it was you about scale lumber. try www.northeasternscalelumber.com. I use to live on east coast and this is where I bought all of my scale lumber. they have lots of lumber in all kinds of woods. I’m still thinking of planking my HMSVictory in cherry. Looks so much nicer than walnut.
Hope this works for you.
Dick

Step 11:
Finished sealing, sanding and varnishing on lower deck. I was skeptical about gloss varnish but its ok.
Also planked 6 rows both sides and marked out cannon gunports on both side. Not a lot of progress as I’ve been busy
with chores around house with good weather. I plan on cutting out gunports in a few days.
Does anyone know how far out cannons stick out beyond gunports. Need an idea because at this stage I’m going to drill
a hole they center of gunports depth into back support and need to figure out depth.

Step 12:
Didn’t like the way kit stearn quarters were going together. No parts fit. Always too small with Mantua.
I decided to remove and rebuild per full size plans that I have. Lots of cringing during demo but all is good.

My blades are 3” and all I’ve seen is 5” or larger. I also want it very thin for scroll work required on model.

This is an extreme makeover... Home Depot usually carries Dremmel accessories and consumables.
No luck at all 5” and larger. Found on eBay. Tear out was not bad at all and the new stearn area will atttach very easily once completed as a separate assembly. Thanks to full size plans that are easy to follow.

Step 13:
Been a while. In middle of remodeling master bathroom. It’s taking a lot of my time lately but still manage to be going forward. I’ve removed gloss finish on lower deck. Didn’t really like it to be so shiny. Also added gratings and will add stairs down from this level soon. Also added cannon ball racks to this level. Mantua model instructions or drawings say and show nothing about these items. Started cutting out stearn pieces. I like jigsaw puzzles. Hahahahahaha. I’ll build this but won’t attach until after all 1st layer planking is done.99E3591D-DC29-4376-9A59-33C34F0E5BE7.jpegD5247169-A517-4109-B23D-D4C10544F35F.jpeg90BA62AF-AD07-4228-8507-0F557866DD27.jpeg89CC24F6-4B4E-440F-AFA0-0FE89C68F76A.jpeg

Step 14:
Started building stearn today. Had a break from rebuild of bathroom. Going together pretty easy by pieces are small and a little fragile broke one piece but glue and reinforced. I’ll finish this part of stearn tomorrow and cut pieces for side sections of stearn.F5BB01D1-83D9-4FC5-89E1-7F3CE8453D86.jpeg
