HMS Victory Mantua 1:78 (first build) by Grant Tyler

Good morning. Spring is in Cape Town and life gets active here- I love it.:D.

I tied off and tensioned all the backstays on the main mast. Firstly I had to redo the the main standing backstay deadeyes. These where upside down and just would not turn.

I have explained each stay previously so won’t bore you again.
Red arrows the stays run through 5mm deadeyes. The Lanyards are shorter than the shrouds on the main channel and longer on the small aft channel. The two on the aft channel are not symmetrical (may have looked better to make them so tho).
Green arrows :the stays run via block and tackle.
Blue arrows :the stays run via a pendant and lashing.

OFF THE SUBJECT:

I have been catching up with other guys log- man there are some amazing models being built here!

I received my next model (Jabeque Cazador) : the box was intact however the parts box had been broken and little pieces scattered around-I wonder how many are lostCautious. We will find out in a long long time from now- will finish Grants Victory first.

I have run out of thread and some 5mm deadeyes. I am ordering some more. I am soooo excited as I will not have to dye another rope and all the rest is good quality rope…..can’t wait. I have no idea how much to order!

Grant, loving the determination! Got the next ship lined up so there'll be no lag between the completion of the Victory and start of the Jabeque Cazador? Brilliant Thumbsup

Haha, found yesterday some old notes from my own build. But I couldn't find what I meant by what I had written. ;) Good luck when the new stuff is in, Grant.
But it’s more and more impressive by every new added line!
Regards, Peter

Beautifully accurate rigging Grant, and more importantly, historically correct. It is indeed a disappointment to receive a kit with parts scattered around. Let's hope that none is lost and that everything is plain sailing from here onwards.

Good morning Paul. That is a coincidence. My first Hanks are very uniform and very unrealistic. I decided I am going to mix them up, make them more untidy and use different tie off's etc. If I continued with every Hank looking the same it would just look "weird" (best description I could think of). My coils just come out looser - I tried to make them really neat (didnt work ROTF ) however I am happy with this. Cheers Grant
Like less perfect is more perfect.

Good morning Richie….me too. There are loads of tiny bits now floating around. Anyway packed away for another time and hopefully ricochet rabbit Grant (to quote @dockattner Paul) does not start rearing his ugly headROTF. Thanks for the compliment. Cheers Grant

Good morning Heinrich. Thank you. I agree let’s hope….Cheers Grant

Looking good Grant! And a next build already in hand! The question is: will ricochet rabbit Grant keep his hands off the new kit before finishing the one he has on the workbench (billiards table) now?
Thanks Paul. Ricochet Rabbit is not going to hop around this shipyard…..well that’s what I keep telling myself ROTF. Cheers Grant

Good morning. I now need to wait for the deadyes to complete my standing rigging. Getting close.

I’m the meantime I am playing with some more coils and hanks.

Here are some pictures of the HMS Victory hanks etc: I would like to achieve something like this as I go.Super untidy and all over the place. All my rope coils and hanks are and will be fake, they don’t follow the falls. I also have not glued the coils to the deck yet- just playing with positioning.

I will redo these two off and merely wrap rope around the kevels as per the actual ship in photos above

Cheers Grant
