HMS Victory Mantua 1:78 (first build) by Grant Tyler

I like your sense of humor. I added norwegian sweaters to my 'knechts' in that same spirit... :p

Hi Grant, re the laundry ... I'm sure they wore long underwear. I had a good chuckle thinking of all those British sailors wearing boxer shorts. Do you think they had a Union Jack motif?ROTF

Howzit Grant, just saying Hi from another Capetonian on this forum. Ex-Capetonian at any rate. You caught my attention when I saw the flag under your name and I took the liberty of browsing your build log. Seriously bru, Victory straight up!? I am well impressed with your tenacity. I'm still bungling along with my first build the Bluenose II here in the amateur stakes, and it is about as much as I can handle at this stage, so kudos to you and I look forward to watching your progress. And oh yes, the rugby was going along very sweetly until that one-point loss to England last weekend ... aargh! Then again, I thoroughly enjoyed watching Les Bleus demolish the All Blacks, who I must admit are looking a bit ordinary and quite beatable. Anyway I'll check you later, and all the best with the Victory Thumbsup

Good morning. There are a couple of us SAFA’s building these little ships.Crazy every oneROTF I have been following your Bluenose and it is coming out brilliantly. Insane year in SA (as you probably know), riots, COvid mismanaged (we are now heading for a fourth wave) and economy hit hard- but we are a resilient bunch as you know. Still crazy and love life is lot. I must say I am surprised that I even got into this hobby however I throughly enjoy building my ship.
Cheers
Grant

Well done it seems all the kits have problems I bought the Corel Victory the instructions are crap and sparce

I think you are correct. My approach has become at least it gives me a chance to research and find out more about the ship and it’s construction. Have turned it into a fun project the research part . Fun time building this ship

Ok, so you know I'm fan of your ship and building, but now I am also a fan of your bar. Man ... those railway sleepers look good!

Thanks guys. Continuing rigging the bowsprit. I added the boomkins(per kit), made the toilets from a photo (don’t know why this section of this ship is not called the “poop” deckROTF:rolleyes:) and made one of the dead eyes for the forestay connecting to bowsprit. I also connected the bowsprit shrouds to the hull.EEB492D3-1998-478A-87FA-B26818DE2F11.jpeg184CA135-A98C-4433-B6B4-8E95C4A51A38.jpeg
The forestay is connected via a block more than a deadeye as shown in the instructions. For this I used a 7x4x2 mm wood drilled a 3mm hole and shaped with needle file. I served the rope to hold this as well.

can you imagine the poor bugger that had to walk across that grating(or plank, if you will). to get to the bowsprit...

My goodness Grant! I must admit I have been remis not coming to your build before now. You have a fantastic looking ship going there! From the hull planking to the canons, the decking all look neat and are a pleasure to look at. I shall keep you on my watch list from now on.
